Has anyone done the hcg diet? My Doctor recommended it but I'm not sure because I don't know anyone that has done it before. If you have, what did you think about it and how much does it cost?

I've done it. It's not easy but you do lose the weight. But to keep it off you have to follow the protocol exactly.

heres two websites to help you out because here on the disboards, only eating right and exercising until you drop is the right way to lose weight:rotfl:

www.4hcgsuccess.com and http://hcgdietinfo.com/hcgdietforums/content/

I'll give you a little run down of the diet. It sounds horrible but it's really not. Once you know what you can eat and not eat it's really simple.

Phase 1 is know as the cleansing phase. Thats where you can cleanse your colon out and almost nobody does this. LOL

Phase 2 Is the 500 calorie a day diet with your hcg (injections or sub-lingual)
1st two days of p2 you will eat a ton of fatty food, not carbs when you start your hcg. Then on day three you start 500 calorie portion of the diet. You stay on this phase for either 23 days or 40 days.

Phase 3 is a modified atkins diets where you reintroduce dairy, eggs, meat, more veggies and larger portions without gaining. You can not have any carbs at all or you will ruin p2 and gain weight. If for some reason you cheat on the diet or something doesn't agree with you will see a gain in weight. That day you will do what they call a steak day. You wait until dinner and eat a huge steak. Then next day you should drop the weight you gained.

Phase 4 you reintroduce carbs and starches.

You will have to weight yourself every day. I also ordered my supplies online and really cheap. Mixed it for sub-lingual use because I hate needles and there is no way I'm sticking myself. LOL

Hths. If you have any more questions feel free to pm me!! Oh and sorry about the bad grammar!! It's been a long day!

I did the homeopathic hcg and had awesome results. In 21 days I lost 16.5 lbs. You lose in areas like your thighs and belly (where the most stored fat is), so its very noticeable. Friends kept commenting on how my legs looked thinner. I would have done the full 40 days to lose more but I timed it so when I went away, I could be on the phase of eating regular again.
My hcg diet did not consist of the cleanse, when you are eating the right foods, you body will do that naturally.
Phase 1 is 2 days of eating fatty foods, almost gorging, sounds fun....hard to do though. you have to make sure you eat enough fat so you sustain for the next phase.
Phase 2 is very lo cal diet...you have a strict amount and kinds of food you can eat, its 500 or so a day but with the hcg in your system you are not hungry at all. Basically the HCG is pulling the equivalent of 1500-2500 calories worth of fat from your stored fat so your body reads that as you have eaten 2000-3000 calories a day. There are naysayers who say if you only eat 500 cal a day of course you will lose weight. However the opposite is true. If you were to eat that little regularly, you would be hungry, no energy and you would not lose and possibly gain because your body would read that as starvation and hold on to every calorie. You MUST follow every direction to see weight loss. If I didn't eat my full 500 I wouldn't lose anything. you can do this phase for 21-40 days.
Phase 3 is when you stop taking the hcg and introduce other foods, you can eat everything except sugars and starches. This was not hard at all because you have reset your body to not crave all the junk. You are not supposed to lose anymore and you should not gain. you must weigh yourself everyday and if you gain 2 lbs you must do a correction day. I only had to do this once but it was expected because I ate way too late.
Phase 4 is reintroducing sugars and starches. This is the last phase and you should be able to eat regularly without weight gain. I am doing another round starting Monday to lose another 20. I have not had any neg. reactions except a skin rash during phase 2 due to the sugar detox. Lot of the crap leaves your body through the pores and my skin wasn't having it. Also, I was on a road trip and had mcdonalds last week, my body immediately rejected that crap and I got sick to my stomac and it came right back up. I don't really even have the desire for fast food anymore. I have had pizza with no weight gain. The diet is intense but so worth the effort.

It works and it works great! You have to be mentally prepared for the VLCD days. Although you don't feel hungry much at all, the limited types of food can get old over time :)

A girl I work with has lost 20 lbs. The drops were $100 and she eats 500 calories a day and 64 oz of liquid. I'm thinking even w/o the drops at 500 calories you'd lose.

Yeah, but you'd lose muscle mass along with fat and generally mess yourself up while being ravenously hungry the entire time.

hcg is not like that at all.

Any time you are on a super low calorie diet you will lose weight. But if not properly done you will lose more muscle, not fat. When my thyroid died and I gained a lot of weight I lost it by eating nothing by fresh fruit for the first 4 hours I was awake and I swam 3 times a week. I've kept that off for over 10 years now with no hormones or special diet needed.

How many days does one HCG Cycle losts?
Do you any real instances which you had witnessed?
Please provide how they undergone the weight loss?

As an actual registered dietitian with NUTRUTION SCIENCE degree ALL quick fix miracle cure diets crud. Period. And doctors may-may- get a single nutrition class through their training. In other words- they are just as easily swayed by articles on popular fluff media as anyone else.

Real weight loss and fitness requires work. Actual planning meals with real food, cooking said food, and regular physicals activity-strength training, flexibility and cardio. Period. That's it.

That's what my doctor says. Make sure 1/2 your plate is vegetables - green and yellow, and get out and exercise.

Hate this time of year! Every other commercial is for weight loss program or supplement.

Sure people might lose 15 pounds in 21 days doing this but think closely - you first cleanse which means a quick loss of weight and water, then 500 calories a day! You think once you're done with this hcg stuff you will continue on the restrictions for the rest of your life! No way for most and that quick weight loss will come back faster and with added pounds.

Best way is sensible diet and exercise. Drink plenty of water. Simple changes. It didn't take you a month to put on a bunch of weight so don't expect it to come off quickly and stay off. Write down honestly what you eat and measure and weigh food-what you think is a portion is probably more like 2-3 portions, especially in restaurants.

Also those pushing these quick loss things don't care about you. They want your money and will claim how fantastic it is, tell you what you want to hear.

Well, actually - the first 10 to 15 pounds WILL come off quickly for most people who are even casually following some sort of plan. But the sticker is it will slow down and then the work really begins - that's when people slip slide and end up back where they began and some times even more weight added.

So, you must stick with the exercise and sensible portions and good choices.

A portion is a lot smaller than people think: a half cup of rice on your plate is NOT what you get in restaurants or in the Chinese take out box. A slice of bread can make a huge difference. And my favorites - mac and cheese and mashed potatoes and gravy - best to stay away until you learn and your body relearns what and how to eat.

Thank you for your reply. But my doctor insisted to lose weight as I am obese with 220 pounds.
Can anyone suggest me an alternative to lose weight?

Eat less. Move more.

It really is that simple. Get a food scale, measuring cups and measuring spoons. Track all your calories in MyFitnessPal (free) & start walking outside (free). Eat more lean proteins, fruits & veggies. Eat less food that comes out of a box. You don't need to spend money and energy on fad diets, gimmicks and expensive gym memberships. People simply sit on their bums too much in front of electronics and eat more calories than they need.

ETA: Read, read, read & read some more http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/categories

I would suggest a crossfit gym. I attend crossfit with my 14 year old daughter. She is in better shape than me and I am the old woman in the class. I do what I can and they are very supportive. Let's just say the first day (and I am retired military but 100% disable upon retirement) I had to step to the bathroom to vomit, but then returned to finish the class. LOL.

I also did a fitness boot camp before joining the cross fit called Samantha Taylor Fitness. The bootcamp is reasonable priced but the regular membership is way more than I want to spend. They also are heavy on the KETO diet and when you join the boot camp they help you with meal planning to even provide KETO recipes that are approved by the fitness instructors as tasty. LOL. I did their KETO diet the first 4 of the 6 weeks before my body just didn't feed full and started eating normal again.

Diet is one thing, but I would join some sort of local fitness group that fits your needs. The HCG diet was more restrictive than the KETO diet as the HCG pretty much all I ate was bland chicken and green beans the entire time in extremely small portions. I am also a picky eater so that limits my choices even more.

Lifestyle changes get diet out of your vocabulary. You didn't turn obese (your words) overnight. It took time of poor choices and habits. Now it's time to make changes and change the habits ~slowly as too many too fast will probably result in failure. If you haven't exercised in years don't go crazy all at once. Planet Fitness is $10 per month with no long term contract. Go slowly on treadmill. Or if you live in warm climate outside. Walk around house. Quit drinking sugary soda, drink more water, get up each hour and walk, as suggested above measure and check portions, use free apps. Basically common sense. Tracking and portion accountability as previous poster said are key.

Fad diets and gimmicks won't work ~temporary fixes. First and foremost if your doctor says you need to lose weight he/she should give you a manageable plan to follow. A good doctor won't say lose weight you're obese and leave you to figure it out.

Time is your friend. It took time to gain it'll take time to come off. You probably will lose fast at first if you have lots to lose but then it'll slow down but you can do it!

Yes, proper nutrition and exercise. Avoid those "fad" diets, they're garbage. Change your lifestyle and you will change your health.

Weight Watchers! You can eat real food and it can work for a lifetime. They just revamped their program. It is now called Freestyle and involves a lot less counting. It is now focusing more on eating lean proteins and more fruits and vegetables which just makes sense. It is also much easier to stick to because if you want a cookie or dessert, etc., you can have it. You just need to plan for it.

This is what I eat on a typical day when doing the plan.

Breakfast....Scrambled eggs with some sautéed spinach or veggies and a couple turkey sausages, coffee with Premier Protein as a creamer

Snack. Greek yogurt and some fruit

Lunch...soup, salad, or tuna or turkey sandwich in light bread with some chips and veggies with homemade ranch dip using Greek yogurt

Snack. Air popped popcorn sprayed with a little Olive Oil cooking spray and salt

Dinner...Baked Potato with Greek Yogurt on top, grilled chicken, and some vegetable

Dessert. Bowl of wild blueberries microwaved with a little sweetener and some Redi Whip topping

It is real food. Nothing is off limits. And most importantly, it works.

To me it just doesn't make sense to starve yourself to lose weight fast. It has been proven time and time again that when you do that, you gain it back just as quickly once you start to eat normal again. Weight Watchers teaches you to make good choices while eating normal all along.

Best of luck to you no matter what you choose!
