I was complaining to a friend that my headlights were yellowed and it made the car look old. Well it is old but it's new to me (2002) AND she told me to put toothpaste on a towel and rub the headlights in a circular motion then wipe clean with another wet towel. I did and it works!

Just wanted to share this great idea.

Yes, toothpaste does work great

but......

when you use the toothpaste it also takes off the UV coating from the plastic when has to be reapplied after cleaning the plastic

WalMart sells kits in the Auto department that do the same thing for the cleaning and they come with the UV conditioner

All your doing is buffing it out, toothpaste is an abrasive, will work but not the best choice. Even buffing compound is better, but as PP said, they has special stuff for it.

If all else fails, you might want to replace them. :confused3
We bought new headlights from Amazon, much cheaper than the dealer price, like a fraction of the price. They got good reviews and they were super easy to install. They were not official factory replacements, but they have worked out perfectly.

They sell this kit at the auto parts store that cleans and conditions your headlights and it has UV coating in it. It's pretty cheap, my husband got it for like $10.

I used one of those kits and it worked really well. As an added bonus, it wasn't as much work as hand buffing because it included a sponge attachment that you put on your drill, so it was done in just a few minutes.
