This week I was able to book an 8 night stay at the DVC Aulani resort. Very excited to get to Hawaii. As I'm thinking about budgeting can somebody please let me know about the Hawaiin Tax at check for a DVC stay? I believe it's called the Hawaiian Transient Tax Per Night. I found some info on this from an old link
Hawaiian Transient Tax Per Night

In my head, I was expecting to pay maybe a $1000 tax at checkout but this link makes me think I was way off for a 1 bedroom in June would be only $14.31 a night for Island Garden view. Anybody stayed at the Aulani and have experience paying the Hawaiin Tax at checkout?

Here is the official 2018 Transient Accommodations Tax chart. By the way, its a bit misleading think that the tax is paid "at checkout." The Transient Accommodations Tax is usually added to your room portfolio on a daily basis.

Thanks a ton for the updated chart! New to DVC this year and you all have been amazing. Now I'm waiting for Southwest airlines to announce Hawaii flights this month (Fingers cross).

That's a big increase from the 2014 cost.

The formula for the Hawaii Transient Accommodation Tax has been the same since Aulani opened in 2011. Since the TAT is based, in part, on the Annual Dues amount, the TAT will increase as the Annual Dues amount increases from year to year.

Actually the tax rate for the TAT was 7.25% in 1999, 9.25% in 2014, and increased to 10.25% in 2018.

Yes, you are right. I had another senior moment when I made my previous post.

With the endless data you have rattling about in there, I think you’re entitled to a moment every now and then.

Looking to go to Hawaii in Sept 2020. Do the renters pay that fee per day or is that part of the DVC owners fees?

What is this tax? Is it only at Auluni? What is it for?
The Villas at Grand Californian also has a Transient Occupancy Tax that is included in the annual dues for the resort. In 2018, the tax was $0.4686 per point; in 2019, the tax will increase to $0.4771 per point.

Unlike Aulani, where its Transient Accommodations Tax is levied only if a villa is used at Aulani, VGC's Transient Occupancy Tax is collected regardless whether the VGC points are used at VGC, or even used at all.

The transient tax at VGC is part of the conditions of having a vacation ownership resort in Anaheim.

You will pay a transient tax at any hotel in Anaheim. It is one component of the overall tax assessed.

Right, so is this like the hotel tax in Florida, or do they have both, a regular hotel tax and then this tax too in Hawaii and California?

When staying on points at Aulani you only pay the Hawaii Transient Tax. There is also a General Excise Tax on hotel rooms in Hawaii (for Aulani owners it is a component on their dues). You do not get charged that excise tax on your folio when staying at Aulani on points.

Ok, so when members stay on their points there, they are essentially paying two taxes. What about resort room guest, when they stay, two taxes as well? Won't effect me because I just won't ever make the trek to Hawaii, unless I won a trip or sorts. Living in Georgia, it would take a couple days of vacation just to get over the jet lag, right?

I have enjoyed watching Micheal Kay's vacation to Aulani this past week, but I just can't see anything that special about the place that I couldn't get closer. With the exception of visiting Pearl Harbor.

When people book through Aulani, yes, they pay the taxes. For example I just looked up the cost of an island view studio the same 8 nights we are staying in January in the same accommodation.
Subtotal is $3,018.40 plus $451.60 in tax.

For eight nights, that tax breaks down to $56.45/night for the cash guest.
As a points guest (going by the 2018 chart since 2019 isn't out yet) we pay $7.34/night for the Transient tax but obviously that will be higher when the 2019 chart is out.

Cash guests also have to pay for parking, stays on points do not.

We travel to Hawaii from Ontario, Canada so same time zone as you in Georgia. It does take a couple days to adjust to the time once you get there, but we don't mind it. It means we are up early in the mornings to get a head start on things!

Hawaii has 2 taxes, the General Excise tax (sales tax) of about 4.7%+ and a transient tax 10.25% every hotel pays this taxes. DVC includes the "sales" tax in the dues.
