We are going to Hawaii in July, 2004 and want to trade our OKW for a place in Kauai. Has anyone done this? How do the Kauai properties compare to OKW? Its only DW and myself (25th Anniv.) so we dont need a 1 BR but it would be nice to be able to cook our own meals.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

Are you planning on a direct trade, or are you going through II? It seems like short notice. We prefer the Princeville area of Kauai, but others prefer the south side. I believe there are several exchanges in Princeville, and two that are near Kapaa and Lihue. Those last two would be on the east side of the island and easy access to most of the island.

Does anyone know if the diving is good in Princeville as compared to the south shore?

The two Marriott's and Hanelei Bay are the only ones worthy of a DVC trade on the II exchange list currently. The Embassy there is also very nice so if it gets added, add it to your list. There are other resorts for less points or for cash if you can get them like Lawaii Beach Resort. Also, if you look at none IIoptions, you there are several other good choices which I posted a few days ago. Find that thread and it should help.

It seemed more crowded to me in 2002 and obviously much wetter. But still we didn't have any problems.

We've stayed at the Marriott Kauai Beach Club Resort and absolutely loved the place. We even considered joining Marriott's timeshare system during our visit, which occupies some of the resort. The cost to get to Hawaii on a regular basis was the primary dissuading factor.

The location is near the airport and on the eastern shoreline, making for a short drive to either side of the island.

Don't know if you could or would want to go in Nov- off season instead, but RCI has a bonus vacation now for only $850 at the Embassy Resort-Kauai. A gold crown and rated DVC comparable by Dean above. You could easily rent your points at OKW (85 points @$10.) & pay cash for a great deal. I believe you would have to get an RCI member to book it with a guest certificate for you, but possibly someone who might even want to trade for your OKW points. I was able to trade with someone on the classified ads on TUG for this fall. I didn't have any luck with trading through II & DVC. I've been on the list for over 1 yr.
