Just watched the Hawaii cruise show, loved the show! I am going on the cruise in November. Thanks so much for the information. Just have a question about shuttle service from the pier at each stop. Does a shuttle pick you up at the piers if you just want to go into town with no excursion planned? We will not be doing excursions at two stops. Thanks in advance.

I was just on this cruise with these guys and although we did rent a car every day I believe at least a few of the stops had shuttles. I'm just trying to remember which ones.

Kona basically tendered you right into a fairly touristy, shopping district and had shuttles to another shopping area, Target and Walmart.

Kauai had shuttles to a nearby shopping area as well as another shuttle I believe to a more distant shopping district. Only went to the nearby one (which is ok). No idea what the other one is like.

I can't recall Maui or Hilo. I believe you can at least get shuttles to Hilo Hatties. I will ask Tracey (my lovely wife) if she recalls any others.

I believe in Hilo there is also a shuttle that takes you to the farmers market which is somewhat centrally located. From there you could probably walk around a bit. The port is a couple miles from town so walking is not ideal.

For both Hilo and Maui I would strongly consider renting a car. You may find the odd shuttle but they are just going to take you to shopping or malls from what I can tell. If you really want to see the island you need to venture out on your own. You tend to dock in very industrial areas (other than Kona) so the immediate surrounding area is not much different than any other industrialized area of an American city.
