Ok so original plan was Japan and thats out then thought scandinavia and dont think i wont to go around that part right now. Now thinging Hawaii. I dont know the first thing about Hawaii! Aulani is booked up. So - what are hotel recommendations? It may only be about 9 days there (if I can stretch my time off - hard to get time off). Am starting to browse through threads for ideas. I see some people like the Marriott. I think we will try to go to maui.

When are thinking of going?
If you want to go to Maui, there are basically two main tourist areas to stay-Ka'anapali and Wailea/Kihei.
OF course there are other areas to stay but these are where most people end up.
Start with trying to figure out if Maui is where you really want to go and id yes, then which area is right for you.
There are pros and cons to both, these videos will give you an idea

Well this has been done in other threads before, and probably better, but here goes…if you want to see:

Real live LAVA—Big Island
Jurassic Park, the movie set—Oahu
Jurassic Park, what feels like the actual place—Kauai
Black sand beach—Maui (“gray” on on Big Island)
Pearl Harbor—Oahu
10,000 foot dormant volcano—Maui
Waterfalls, snorkeling, hiking, great food, gorgeous beaches—any island!!

So you really can’t make a bad choice here :)

thanks!
end of june. I see direct flights from maui so thinking we fly to honolulu , few days at oahu, fly to maui, few days there and then back....I am not sure I have the energy for a lot of planning though... thanks will watch video...

You might want to consider an airbnb. That's often our preference as we like the privacy and the ability to grocery shop and make our own meals.

I'll start off with I've never been so I really know nothing. ;) However I am planning on going in July...my third year in a row of trying to go in July so I'm an expert on planning/booking and canceling, LOL!

While we are planning 1 night in Waikiki and 4 at Aulani, we are also doing NCL's Pride of America cruise around the islands. I'm looking at the cruise as a great way to get a taste of a few more islands, without having to pack up and keep moving. That might be an option for you.

cruise sounds awesome!! We just finally booked our flights - will do oahu and maui. No aulani as it is booked. Researching the other hotels now! where will you stay at waikiki? looking at Prince

We are booked at Shoreline Waikiki. It looks a little cheezy (neon lights, really bold color schemes) but we are basically just looking for something clean and cheap for our first night as we will be arriving about 10:00 pm our time. We dont expect to do too much, probably just check out Waikiki then crash, and this saves us more than $600.00 over staying that first night at Aulani.

Whoa! Just came across your post. We’re beginning to plan an anniversary trip to Hawaii. We want to do the Pride of America cruise and decided that if we’re going to Hawaii we have to go back to Aulani. We’re coming from the east coast so decided to do Aulani first to try to readjust our inner clocks before the cruise.

Have a great trip!

(Can’t believe our trip to Aulani was eight years ago!)

Great minds think alike! It really does sound like the perfect plan. For us, also from the east coast we probably wont ever go again (especially after how hard its been getting there this time, LOL), so I want to see and do as much as we can. This trip is all about experiencing Hawaii while usually our cruises (DCL) are about the ship experience and relaxing.

A word of warning…our trip was a “once in a lifetime” too. And by the second day, I was already desperately plotting a return!! I’ve been a lot of places, but there’s just something magical about Hawaii. We’ll be there in June!! Hope you find yourself in the same happy predicament!!! 😊
