Having surgery for the 1st time tomorrow! Nervous!!

I am having back sugery tomorrow and I am hoping it all goes well! I am a little nervous about it, just because it is the first time I have ever had surgery and it isnt that common of a surgery. I am having an anterior lumbar fusion - which basically means they are taking out the bad disk in my back and replaces it with a bone graft and fusing it together with plates and screws. I have a great doctor though, so hopefully everything goes smoothly! I need your good thoughts and vibes!

You will do great! My #1 piece of advice, try to get out of bed as soon as they ask you to. It's not pretty (I was almost in tears just trying to sit up), but the quicker you do it, the quicker you'll be on the road to recovery!

Good luck! I had a spinal fusion years ago. I had a vertebra that was slipping so they took out part of my hip bone and basically fused it to my spine to prop up the vertebra. Things were much different then, though. I was in a full body cast for almost 4 months! That is pretty much unheard of nowadays. I hope you have an easy and speedy recovery.
