I have a room booked at the Grand Californian for 4 nights the beginning of October. I got a really good rate. I am now thinking that it might be a better option for me to change to DLH or PP with concierge which would be pretty much a wash for cost.

What are your thoughts? I've never stayed at any of these hotels.

I am the official trip planner in my family and it is important to me that everyone have a good time. I like the convience issue of the GC but just can't help wondering...

I have no personal experience in this, however, having read these boards for a very long time, I would say stick with what you have. I have read that concierge at the other resorts isn't a huge deal, mostly drinks and snacks, and some services you might not need if you are a big planner (like me). The GC is new and beautiful, and totally convenient. I would want luxury all the way, not that there is anything wrong with the other hotels. I am staying at the DLH and would stay at the GC if price weren't an issue for us on this particular trip. I have seen the GC featured many times on the Travel Channel....I'd stay right where you are. Others may disagree, but that's what I would do.

Have a wonderful trip!!:)

I just got back from staying at the PP (w/ Concierge). We walked thru the GCH 2-3 times a day for 3 days.

My wife & I are in 100% agreement that from now on.....we will ONLY stay at the GCH or a Harbor Blvd. motel near the light. (& will probably alternate). In other words it will be luxury or moderation. The PP was OK, but it was no GCH.

The PP concierge food was nice to have, but not worth the extra $$. If you bring a 24 pack of water, & cokes. A breakfast bar & a sack of chips or two....then viola....you've got concierge :).

I completely agree with the WDW4us, above. The location and beauty of the GCH was amazing. I think you'd be nuts (in a nice way :rotfl: ) to switch.

I personally love the GCH - it's the only place I want to stay when I go to DL now. To me, it's worth the cost....I DO like to spend time in my hotel room, taking a break in the afternoon, and the location and ambience couldn't be beat. The balcony was great, too. We love the theme parks, but aren't full-fledged commandos - we want a nice, comfy room with great beds and a few perks.

We considered concierge but didn't think the added cost was worth it for what we would use. If the costs work out the same, though, then go with your gut - if you're curious about concierge, then I would go for it as you will surely still have a great time at any of the resort properties. I know a lot of people really LOVE the DLH!! I prefer the style of the GCH, it's closer proximity to the park (when we went, the monorail was down - that probably wouldn't be an issue for you), and the onsite restaurants were fantastic.

I don't think this is a case where you can make a wrong decision, really!! ;)

Wow! thanks for all the great input.:thumbsup2

It really makes me feel better having your support. I am a serious planner. It's like pulling teeth to get any input from my family (and best friend who is coming along this time) but once the trip arrives, they offer their opinions freely. :lmao:

I feel better now and will keep my GC ressies.

Ya I don't think there would be much of a contest in that for me. Concierge is nice, but I don't think it's worth the money at all. We bring snacks, soda and water from home at a fraction of the cost. Getting priority check in is also nice, but also not worth that kind of bucks. Given the choice I'd always pick GCH.

There's really no way to go wrong with the GCH - it's a beautiful hotel. I'm sure your family (and friend!) will love it!!

Hi everyone.

We are considering going to Disney Land next summer with the kids. We have been to Disney World about 10 times and would like a change.

Question? How is California in August. Is the weather really hot or is it bearable. I know I would never go to Florida in the summer. Is California the same?

Thanks for any info.:cool1:

Sorry to bardge in on this post but i am new to this and dont know how to post my own question... my own thread i guess... someone help me please...THANKS!

Welcome to the board.:flower3:

Just go to the thread list and on the upper left hand side you will see a "Start new thread" box. Hit that and you're good to go.

Personally, I'm not a fan of the GC Hotel. For the cost of the room, I found it completely insulting that they don't even give you roll-away beds for the fifth person in the room and instead give you *sleeping bags*. In my opinion, the rooms themselves were no different than a lot of the other hotels I've stayed at in the vicinity (growing up my youth group went to conventions in Anaheim all the time, so I've stayed at a number of the non-Disney hotels -- not motels -- out there). I felt that the best parts of that hotel were the lobby and restaurants, both things that you have access to as an outsider anyway. Such a disappointing experience. :sad2:

I agree. . . :rolleyes1

We just returned from the Grand Californian and they have GREAT beds :cool1: We went down to Carlsbad for a week after Disneyland and both of my daughters said the same thing "can we go back and steal the beds from GC."
:woohoo:

It does get very hot, but it is worth it of course, because it's Disneyland! It isn't as humid as Florida of course, which makes a big difference.
