Having issues with transfer paper

I bought the HP iron on transfer paper for dark colored shirts. Printed one design today that has a white background. As soon as I ironed it onto a red shirt the whole transfer turned red. I called HP and got absolutely nowhere with their customer service. Any ideas what happened? This is the 2nd package of paper I've bought. The Tailor brand from Joanns was awful. I'm wasting so many transfers, ink and shirts. I would have just bought Amy's but we will never wear these shirts again so I really only need them to look good for the 1 vacation day, not looking for them to last forever.

Did you follow the directions? If yes, then I don't know that its anything you did. I made some shirts for our last trip using the dark transfers from wilton-I got them with a 40% off coupon at Michael's. I used them on all different colors and none showed the color of the shirt thru it. I've washed them a couple times inside out on gentle and they still look great. You might want to give that brand a try. I've also see some good review posts about Avery brand transfers, but I've not tried those myself. Hope that helps.

I was just going to mention that the light transfers from wiltons that I used did not hold up as good as thier dark ones. Don't know why.

I have used HP and had the same thing happen. What you can do to 'try' to prevent it, is to turn the heat down on your iron and iron for less time (I think I did about half the time) than they say. And try to stop ironing before the red starts to bleed through.

I didnt have any problems w/ mine like that, but I washed some at Disney and I dont know if it was the power of the washers or if the transfers just sucked but we got some inexpensive ones from michaels and they came off when washed at disney.
