Having food in the rooms?

just curious why you are only going to have the DDP on the first half of your vacation?
My suggestion was regarding the frigde. You mentioned not having one and I kinda took it as you would like to have one. I know the resort will lend one out to you for $10 per night :scared1: . Steep I know...but when we stayed at Pop this past March we were part of Pop fridge swap #2 (you will find the link on the budget boards). Anyway we paid something like $7 for the entire stay. It was a great fridge and Jennifer was great to deal with! (If you can't find the link let me know and I will get her info to you.

Anyway, regarding your question...bring what ever snacks you want and do not worry about it. no one will say anything. the worst thing that would happen is that you save a few bucks that you can spend somewhere else.:rolleyes1

I plan on bringing snacks (chips, pretzels, goldfish) but I'm also going to bring popcorn & maybe english muffins??? water, some liquor for the adults & juice!!

I wish we could have it the entire time! Our trip originally started out as a split stay, 3 days on-site, and 6 days off-site at DoubleTree. Then Disney sent us a post card (just a few weeks ago) with a Value rate of $59/night, so we switched. I thought I could get the dining plan for the entire stay, but I learned that I'd have to buy a one day pass to make it a package, plus they won't let me stack discounts (the dining plan being considered a discount, plus the great room rate). I tried!

I really appreciate all of the responses and great suggestions- thank you!

I want a post card like that!!!

We have stayed at many resorts, and we always bring cereal and milk for breakfast. We keep the milk in a cooler and get ice at the hotel. I dont think its being cheap as we do eat out at some very nice resturants. I feed the kids while the wife gets dressed and the kids dont have to wait an hour for something to eat.

Okay, I know it's not for everyone but I've used the microwaves and toasters at the food court many, many times. I bring frozen stuff from home in those disposible containers and heat it up at the food court. We also do bagels in the toaster. We do this because A), yes, I am that tight and B) most of my family can only take so much food court food. It's fun for a couple of days but we just prefer home cooking which includes a lot more veggies and fresh stuff than we find in the food courts. I bring things like jambalaya, gumbo, veggie soup, etc. that is easy to microwave. I really don't find it that much of an issue to pop over to the food court to heat things up. Before the kids got too old for all of us to fit comfortably in our smallish travel trailer we vacationed at Ft. Wilderness and I did a lot of cooking on those trips. My crockpot was my best friend. Now that we're empty nesters we're going to give the trailer another go.

For breakfast we have cereal, yogurt, bagels, fruit, etc. in the room before we set out for the parks.

We usually eat one other meal either in our room or out by the pool. I've only run into someone else who needed the microwave once and I took my stuff out and let them nuke their EasyMac first since it takes me longer to heat my containers up. Bringing our own food saves us a lot of money and lets me keep a handle on the amount of junk we eat. Our third meal of the day (usually lunch or dinner) is most often a TS.

We bring food for breakfast not because it would cause "serious financial hardship" but rather because it makes breakfast a lot quicker and less hectic. The food courts can be packed at "prime time" in the mornings. We bring cereal, disposable bowls and spoons and keep the milk in the frig. The milk also gets used in coffee. Disney it not known for the quality of its food court coffee and I'd much rather have my Starbucks Verona. Moderates and deluxe supply a coffee maker in the rooms.

I'm the type that tends to bring a few snacks with me just for the convenience. Sometimes a walk back to the food court can be a looooong walk. Especially with resorts like CSR - I might as well pack a lunch just to take that long walk to get a snack!

I also bring some water and soda. (I live close so I can drive not fly). As I said, for me, it's the convenience. When I get back to the room at night I just like to relax. In the morning it's nice to have a little something with my coffee.

November will be my first stay in a value, so I'll likely bring one of those Cafe Uno machines - I NEED coffee first thing in the morning and don't want to trek to get it! My October stay will be at POFQ, so I'm covered with a coffee maker and fridge for that stay.

For the OP: There are some fridge swaps on the Budget Board - might want to look and see if there are any available for your dates.

We always bring snacks, and a few bottles of wine ;-).

One year I got really enterprising and brought a cheap toaster with so the kids could have warm poptarts in the morning. But it was just not worth the trouble. I realized I didn't want to spend even one second of my vacation fooling with kitchen appliances.

I don't see why Disney would have a problem with people bring their own appliances in as I've seen people do this at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta hotel. Have done that one time as a friend had his microwave in the room and I've seen them and mini fridges on the luggage carts on checkout day.

Disney really doesn't want you to cook in your room unless your room is equipped to cook like a DVC villa. And your neighbors will appreciate you not cooking in your room as well.
