Having extra guests for a night or two

My family and I will be at VGC for 8 nights early next year. I was thinking of inviting a friend and her husband to come join us for a night or two.

I know when we made the reservation they asked for the names of who would be staying in the room. Should I call back before our trip and add them, could I let the front desk know when we arrive, or would it even matter?

We will not be exceeding room capacity.

if you room occupancy is fine - then it does not matter.

you would only need to call and add them - if they would be doing something that they needed the resort ID to do it.

The other factor, which doesn't apply at VGC, is if you had the Dining plan.

My brother had two of his friends spend the night in our OKW room once while they were on a road trip. They didn't need keys, and we didn't exceed capacity. They hung out, ate breakfast with us, and headed on their way. No problems at all

We just finished a trip to VGC and had our kids join us mid trip.

At check in, we added their names to our room and picked up room keys for them so they could meet us in the park and then have the ability to return to the room whenever they wanted.

It also is a good idea to have their names on the reservation for when they drive into the gated hotel driveway to unload luggage, park etc.

Also, the hotel was having a promotion that let each guest get 2 free fast passes for the parks (even DVC'ers), so we picked those up for them also

One of my old friends live in SoCal, though an hour and a half away from DL. I'm envisioning a relaxing dinner party and if she has a place to stay, a bit too much wine!

We also had our in-laws join us for a few days of our trip last year. Was not sure exactly which day they would arrive, so we did not add names until morning of their arrival. And really we just added them so that they could have a key to the unit upon arrival without us needing to be present (in case we were still at the parks).

We did have the dining plan and Desk Staff just reminded us that in-laws would not be added to the plan at that point (ok by us!) and could not "share" our plan if/when they did join us for meals (again no problem just paid OOP for those meals).

I never know when DD will arrive on our trips and usually its just for two days. Whenever she arrives (BWV) I just add her name to the room the day she arrives so she can have a key. As long as that person does not put you over the room limit it has never been a problem. Dining Plan was not an issue and we understood she could not be on it with us. Of course, she paid cash at the table, never a problem either

My sister and niece just decided to join us for part of our WDW trip and I called and added them to the room. This way they can us ME and then I did have to pay for the dining plan for them also.

Only thing in Disneyland that would require her own room key is if you were taking advantage of Magic Mornings or early entry into DCA at the hotel entrance.

As I've stated before, I think DVC puts members in a catch 22 situation when it comes to the DDP. For many of us, they make it so we can't follow the rules. I believe that DVC members are FAR more likely to have people come and go from a given room than non DVC members. And while the larger units which inherently opens you up to more numbers is part of it, just the nature of DVC seems to generate the come and go mentality. I know for some of my family I literally wouldn't know if they were coming until they arrived. That makes the need to list and pay for all on the DDP and the requirement to have all listed on the reservation mutually exclusive issues for some of us part of the time (some more than others of course).
