My parents have a contract at SSR. We just came back from a big family trip, and since then I've been thinking of buying in myself. I think just 50 or 75 points would do - enough for a studio trip or maybe 1 br every 2-3 years. I starting thinking about this right around the price increase mention, but wasn't ready to make final decision by March 19.

Now, I'm totally convinced that resale is the better deal. That being said, given the lack of small contracts, perhaps it's not a huge savings to go resale for 50 points? Also, if that is the case, can I have my parents just do an add on? Could they include me on the deed for the add-on only? Or just transfer it to me outright post-purchase? And if they transfer to me, are there any limitations like there are on resales?

I'm not in a huge rush. Our next trip is Dec 2014, and my parents are booking a 2br for the family. I'm not even sure what resort I'd pick right now. I'm considering maybe both HHI plus a FL resort (never been to HHI though).

I have been reading, that if you insist, Disney will let you buy in, at only 50 points. So you might want to call them and see if they will let you buy the 50--75 points and you wont have to deal with the transfers.

Also direct transfers like to family, unless money exchanges hands, does not follow resales rules currently.

That's interesting...I want a small 50 point at Aulani but not too much seems to be available...is disney really allowing buy ins at 50p?

I havent called my guide to confirm it, But it would make sense. Disney would rather have you buy 50 points, and hope you realize its not enough and buy more, rather than not buying at all.

If anyone here has successfully bought in direct at 50 points id love to hear it!

After thinking more about this, it seems better to go for a bigger resale vs a smaller direct in terms of upfront cost. If i'm not going to use all the points, I could always just rent them out. That would cover the higher MFs due to getting a bigger contract. Does that seem feasible? I'm not talking a huge jump, maybe just 100-150.

You can't change the names on the title with an add-on. It would have to be a new contract. An add-on contract must have the exact same names as the original contract.

This happened to someone we know. One of our friends wanted to buy in - but at VGF. So he tried to sell her a 50pt SSR contract so she had bought in before VGF is released. (She didn't take the contract and still wants only VGF but it is possible to buy in with 50pts.)
