Having a smaller cake ? (escape)

Hello,

Again, I need your help. By reading the forum I realised the escape cake feeds 20-30 people...that's so big...we'll be 6 of us maximum ! (and maybe only 2)

I read that some brides boxed the cake and eat it during the whole week. Problem : the wedding is on wednesday and we want to do the 3 nights bahamian cruise living on thursday.

I really hate throwing the food, so do you think I can ask to have a smaller cake ? (feeding 10 people ?) Moreover we'd like to upgrade to a mad hatter cake (they're so beautiful), but don't want to do it if we have to throw the 3/4.

Have somebody already done that ?

Thanks;)

EDIT : if it's not possible I will have to invite DIS members to help us eating the cake :rotfl:

You probably will not get a refund for "down grading" your cake. I would suggest buying some take out containers (like from Oriental Trading) and boxing up pieces for your guests :goodvibes

Or you could post when and where, and if any board members are visiting Disney during the same time, they would love some free cake! :rotfl:

Edit: Ha, just saw your edit. I need to start paying more attention!

But I have another idea, I know that you can have miniature cakes made, one for each guest. And there is a mad hatter version. Is there a way you could possibly convince the baker to do this for you, even though you are an Escape bride? Wouldn't hurt to ask. There is a picture in the cake thread, I will go hunt it down now!

Edit again: Here is a picture.

Here is the thread post with other pictures of mini cakes too. Some a two tiered, some are not. All look tasty though!

You are essentially paying for a two tiered cake and as someone said I really doubt they will let you downgrade and reduce the cost of the package.

So I will echo the idea of boxing it up for your guests. It doesn't even have to be fancy...I think plain ole gladware tupperware will do :thumbsup2 You could also just leave it for housekeeping. I don't know if they would take it, but just a thought :confused3

Are the miniature cakes more expensive? How about cupcakes? Does anyone know the pricing for either of these choices? Thanks.

ETA: Oooh! Sarah and I think alike! :)

Disney doesn't do cupcakes for weddings, unfortunately. The mini cakes range from $17 to $25 each.

I went with some friends to Disney a few years ago and we had a birthday cake, and housekeeping helped themselves to it, even though we didn't leave a note for them to, and had it in a box.

So I'm sure if you left a note they'd be more then happy to sample it for you. Also, maybe you could have them put pieces in containers for you and see if anyone you pass might want a few pieces.

I beg to differ.

Disney does and has done cupcakes with wedding style set ups. At least 6 events this year alone.

Keep in mind that the cake sizes are a 10" base tier with a 6" top tier. The base tier is what gets served, the top tier gets boxed for your anniversary. Disney quotes 20-30 servings for the base tier, but that is cutting the slices the same size as what would be served at a large function, about 2 inch wedges. If you request larger "picnic" size slices, your 6 guests will easily go thru more than half of the base tier.

If you do not have refrigeration available, then only order the butter cream filling, as it does not need to be kept cold. All Disney mousse fillings are made with cream and egg products, and thus need refrigeration.

:lmao::lmao::lmao: hahahaha. I'm sorry, I know you must have been really mad at the time, but that is insane. Did they think you wouldn't notice?!

It's funny looking back, and we had a lot of cake, but the best part, they left a finger print on the cake. How would we not notice a fingerprint :confused3 they were some sloppy cutters.

The thing that most bothered us about the whole thing, is the night manager didn't believe us, and the other manager we talked to didn't seem surprised almost like it was a regular occurrence. They offered to have another cake made, but at that point we were over cake.

Thanks for your ideas.

I really think I will ask my planer a mad hatter cake, they are so beautiful.
The small one is very cut, but I would like to have a cake cutting.

So we'll try to box it, for the guests, for the officiant, for the photographer.

A lot of people freeze the top layer of their cake and eat it on their one year anniversary. However, only a few cakes survive this freezing process (most cake books I have recommend a fruit cake as the top layer as it can handle being frozen... but blech!) There was a thread on here last week asking if the process was worth, but most brides said nope. Enjoy it while its fresh! Although I think one bride said she froze it for about two weeks and it turned out just fine. Is there maybe a guest who could take it home to freeze for you? Not for a year, but maybe a week or two? Or is everyone going on this cruise after?

Then how come all the brides on the various message boards who ask DFTW are told they can't have cupcakes instead of a cake? Hmmmm....?

:scratchin

Thanks for he idea but...I'm from France and I don't think any of my guests will be courageous enough to go back to France with a piece of cake in their hand luggage :rotfl: And I am not sure about the freshness of the cake at arrival (more than 8 hours to London and then...) ;)

But it could be a good idea for US brides.

Here is my one tier cake that the GF did for our small reception. Maybe they could do something like this for you? It was 10"

no clue there, do you have examples?:scratchin

DFTW has done cupcake, donut, and even rice Krispy cakes/displays.
