So my grandparents and parents want to see me get married catholic, and I would love to as well but Disney weddings is what I have always wanted. Its too bad that if you get married catholic it must be done at the house of worship. Does anyone know if they can do a religious ceremony such as prayers???

Thanks:goodvibes

You know, I seem to remember someone here who wanted a Catholic ceremony and there was someone who was willing to do what they could for her Disney wedding, even though the church wouldn't officially recognize it.

I'm sorry, I know this isn't much help...I can't remember who it was or anything. Hopefully they will post...(or we can attempt a search:scared: )

Maybe knowing something is possible helps a little?

I am pretty sure that the Roman Catholic Church will not marry you inside Disney. They will only marry you in a Roman Catholic Church. I think hiwaygal is thinking of someone who found another catholic faith to marry them. I remember seeing the thread, but can't remember the details.

If you don't need a catholic mass, you can have a religious ceremony in the wedding pavilion. A catholic pried will probably not being willing to marry you there, but you can have a religious ceremony. Rev. Jack Day has a variety of ceremonies in many different religious forms. Personally, we found a nice blend of Catholicism and protestantism that suited us.

I am not sure how much this helps, but I hope it does!

I was in the exact same situation... my family was shocked that I didnt have a Catholic wedding. My ceremony was as close to Catholic as you could get without being in the Church. Most of the ministers on Disney's list will perform any type of ceremony you give them... I wrote mine with the help of a couple Catholic wedding books. My readings were 1 Corinthians 13:4-8, 13 and the second reading was actual a Gospel reading Matthew 19:3-6. I also had lots of references to God and lots of prayers in it... so Disney definitely doesnt stop you from having a religious ceremony

I remember the other thread... Tiggeriffic was the bride who did all the research. I think she did find a priest that would marry her at Disney. She ended up not using him though. Maybe you can PM her and find out why.

Hi Christine

Amanda's mom here ..

I understand your parents and the catholic church issue,

Manda is using Rev Tim Herring he sent us a book that tells couples about getting married outside the church but including all the religious parts of the mass (excluding the communion of course) but he is following the pattern very closely and we got to choose all the readings etc......

I really likes him when we met him last month as well......

Christina- My FIL married us because he is a retured United Church of Christ minister. I am catholic and had this very same issue at first. I was very happy with our ceremony, we had prayers, speakers( corithians 13 and a love poem), I did Ava maria to give our mother's the roses like they do in the church, we had everyone say the our father. it was very similar to the catholic ceremony in that sense, of course there was no comunion. I have my ceremony from my FIL. I will have to find it and email it to you.

Well let me chime in here for a second. Only the Orlando Diocese will not recognize the wedding out side of the church, most others will. I am having a catholoic ceremony. I spoke to a few priests here and found one that is willing to perform the ceremony and will take care of all the paperwork one he gets back home. He assured me that I would not have any problems.

Hope that helps.

If you really want to have communion and can not find a Catholic priest agreeing to do so at Disney, you could have an Episcopal priest conduct the ceremony and have communion. The Episcopal service is almost identical to a Catholic service. Just a thought...

Thank you girls so much

Daniella I would love for you to e-mail me your cermony info...
Thanks a bunch

As someone who is joining the Catholic Church this year (and a previous Disney bride ;) ), just understand that a Catholic marrying without the ok of a priest cannot take communion until the marriage is convalidated. So, if you want the Disney wedding, either get a dispensation (ask your priest) beforehand, or prepare to jump through some hoops afterwards. A marriage of any Catholic outside of the Church is not a sacramental one and you must have a sacramental marriage (if married) to participate in the sacraments. Just an FYI to ya'll.

Thank you I am actually going to call my church tomorrow and ask them some questions

Thanks again girls:goodvibes

Just chiming in to point out that you need to be in a church to be officially married in the eyes of the church, as you stated in the OP. You can go ahead and get married legally at Disney, and then do a Catholic ceremony later. I think that is what Tiggerific decided to do.

Thats exactly what I will be doing:goodvibes

We're going to do a Catholic ceremony privately with just immediate family before the Disney wedding. It was important to my family as well to do a Church ceremony, so this way, I get a Church-recognized ceremony, and I get my Disney dream wedding too :thumbsup2

We are getting our wedding blessed by the church when we get back to the states, but are planning an almost Catholic service. My cousin who is a Lutheran minister (Catholic light, haha) is marrying us and my Mom who was the liturgist for our Catholic Church for 8 years wrote up the ceremony. You can use a Catholic ceremony idea (with readings etc if you want), just not a Catholic priest. If you need help I have a copy of mine that I can send you that my Mom did. We decided to pass on communion, but you could do that too if you wanted and talked to a preacher.

I hope everything works out for you! Just remember- you can never make everyone happy! So you might as well try and make #1 happy (YOU!)

Would anyone mind sending (via PM) me their readings??? It would be greatly appreciated!
