I'm starting to plan our first Disney trip and we have a DS 9 and he's mentioned that he really doesn't want to miss school because he is affraid that he will miss so much that it will be hard to make up. I don't really blam him, but that puts us going sometime in the summer or over a school break. My in-laws went in 2000 over Thanksgiving and I really don't think that the crowds were bad, but I'm wondering if they have gotten worse. I guess that I'm just looking for some opinions about Thanksgiving, Christmas break, and June or August. Thanks for the help. :)

When does your ds go back to school in September? My ds6 goes back 9/10. The end of August is great. Warm enough to enjoy the pools, water rides and water parks, but not too crowded (with the exception of Labor day Saturday).

Yeah, DS goes back the tuesday after Labor Day monday. I was concerned about the crowds and if everyone was trying to get in one more vacation before school. A lot of my family is telling me that we should really think about Thanksgiving....I'm still not sure though. Oh well, it should get figured out soon, I hope.

Thanksgiving week isnt bad but its not good either.... I think the weekend following it is worse then the beginning of the next week (i hope that made sense to you! :) )

What about Columbus Weekend... ??? I know thats not during the Christmas holiday but it is during Halloween! :)
Also, I dont know if he gets off for Veterans day but thats another holiday in November that would be a good time to go and during that time they have put up the Christmas decorations....

Do you get off a week in Februaray for Presidents week? The crowds are usually good, weather not too hot.. and great to end the winter with!

Thanks for the ideas. I think that we would only get the friday off for Vertrans Day, but the idea of February and President's Day, that might work. It looks like last year they got Friday and Monday off. I would have to book now for that and get my plans in better order and figure out the ADR's. :scared:

Thanks for the help. I've learned that this may be the place for all the help I can get.

So would you book now for February without knowing the rates and then they would just increase the price of your rooms and things after they come out or what?

For Thanksgiving it would be best to go at the begining of Thanksgiving week and then leave on the friday after Thanksgiving? I'm not sure that I understood that one.?

I don't know about that, sorry! :guilty: But I do know that I love  February in Florida. Up here in NY we get the whole week off. It helps that DH's shop always closes the last 2 weeks in Feb! Perfect timing! Enjoy your planning, and don't forget your ADR's! :goodvibes

I know your pain...finding time to take vacations between school and sports teams has became a parttime job in and of it's self for us.
You mentioned your son doesn't have to go back to school until Sept. (LUCKY YOU...This year our kids start back Aug. 9) I would go as late in August as I could. I know it will be HOT, but the crowds may be down some (not much but maybe some) due to the fact some kids will already be back in school.

I was at Disney this past Presidents Day weekend and it was packed! The crowds were worse than summer. The weather was unusually cold - highs in the low 50s and lows near freezing. I went with a group and the kids all ended up buying coats, sweatshirts, and gloves. The good part was it was snowing and cold in Pennsylvania so at least Florida was warmer than home :)
The parks were open late every night.

We're from Ada, MI. Weatherwise, I would go over Thanksgiving week or wait till June.

The weather in FL is unpredictable in Jan and Feb, it all depends on the cold front from the north.

Have fun!

Go the end of August, It will be hot but not real crowded.

Thanks for all the ideas. My DH should be home this weekend, he's an over the road truck driver, and we have the whole week together and it's going to get talked about or I will just be telling everyone when we are going and they will just have to like it. I'm ready to make some room ressies.:rotfl:

I hope that you all have fun with your up coming trips....I will be looking for trip reports. :flower3:
