I am torn if i should go to both places, they seem to get mediocre reviews so thinking i may choose one. but if you guys think it is super place to eat for kids ages 3 and 6 (boys) maybe i will keep it. or should i trykona or chef de france in its place???

ooooh, that's a toughie!!!! I've done both, and they're both great experiences! 50's Prime Time really takes you back to the 50's with a great "50's family home" atomosphere, make sure to bring your manners!!! No elbows on the table, and please and thank-you's are strictly enforced ;)
Sci-Fi is also a unique experience. Families get their own little drive-in car to sit in!
Food at the 50's was very good....they have more traditional fare like home-made deep-fried chicken, tuna casserole and cherry cokes.
Food at the Sci-Fi was more like a casual restaurant - ribs, chicken, pastas.
I think you'll have a great time at either. From my experience, the the Sci-Fi booked up faster than the 50's. Have fun!

We did both last April - the Sci Fi we had done before in '06 and it was one of only 2 restaurants my boys requested to "repeat" for our '10 trip. We did Sci Fi for an early lunch (11:30) and then got an ADR for 50s PT after park closing at 7:20. Both were great food and great fun. My boys are already saying we need to do both "next time" - whenever that may be!!! We also did Chefs de France for lunch it was good but the kids much prefered Sci Fi & 50s. Have never been to Kona (maybe "next time")

We often do both. 11:15am for Sci-Fi and around 5:30pm for 50's PT. If I HAD to choose one for kids your ages, I'd pick the Sci-Fi, but do both if you can.

I'm sorry, I have eaten all over Disney and Sci-Fi is at the bottom of my list. That being said, the kids loved it. I personally found the atmosphere fun but the food not up to the Disney standards we are accustomed to. I would try the other 2 (Kona or Chefs) in a heartbeat over the Sci-Fi if you are concerned about food quality. If you are simply looking for a fun place to eat and atmosphere trumps food, then Sci-Fi will do. Have fun!

I have done all of those but Chefs de France. I prefer 50s for several reasons...first of all, it is super fun! The servers treat you like "family" and last time we went, our server actually did the "airplane" with our friends fork to make him eat more before dessert. Neeless to say, if you don't have a sense of humor, don't go there. As an added plus, the food is amazing! My favorite is the pot roast, DH likes the tuna cassorole, which actually has a tuna steak on it...yum.

Sci-Fi I can do without. Just not crazy about the menu or the little cars. Kona is great, but I don't think it is super themed or really kid friendly. Though Kona does have the Kone Kone dessert...it is an icecream cone with lots of toppings, and a mini serving of cotton candy on it. :) Kids like that.

I have both on my list for this upcoming trip.. I have an early lunch at 50's Prime and then a later dinner at Sci Fi.. I know the food doesn't get great reviews but my son is obsessed with cars so we are going for that..
Before I switched around my ressies I was going to pay OOP for Sci Fi.. Maybe just grab a yummy shake that they have there and an order of onion rings just to have the experience.

DHS may not have too many CS places that are good but Sci-Fi and 50's are both great! Atmosphere and food.

These 2 places are a must for our family each trip to Disney. We normally do an early lunch between 11-11:30 for their AMAZING burgers, onion rings and a shake and then 50's for dinner around 6:45-7. Their fried chicken or meatloaf is fabulous and if you can handle the PB&J shake before you leave, it is unbelievably delicious!! I will say that the meals here are big enough to share. We normally split the burger, rings and a shake at Sci-Fi and the fried chicken and a PB&J shake at 50's. This saves us some TS credits for later:thumbsup2

Both of these places are great fun for the whole family and when we start planning our Disney trips and I ask my family where they want me to make our ressies for to eat. It is always unannimous for both 50's and Sci-fi!

You and your family will love them both.:woohoo:

Prime time would be good for the kids the waiter is funny and the kids will it.
Found that the sci fi is costly and the food just ok.

We have done both as well and would pick Prime Time over Sci-Fi. Both of the kids got sick from eating at Sci-Fi. Not sure if it was the food or what but both at the same time made me wonder. They won't go back...
