Hello All!! I (Evie) am a newbie to this thread. :goodvibes One of my best friends isVanessaand she is responsible for my disney addiction, along with getting me hooked on the DIS. I thought I would pipe in and say hi, because I do not want anyone to think I am a stalker (ha!!). I was laughing at her one day because I found her on this thread, and I felt like I was imposing on her conversations. I feel like I kind of know you ALL from her talking about all of you, she makes me laugh.
My story is, I am a Mom of 4 kids, my oldest is my only son(9), and the rest girls. There are days I feel very sorry for him, but he will make a good husband some day!! We recently bought into DVC at AKL, actually after our last trip in Feb. We decided to take a trip and bring MIL to help(her first trip ever) and get more bang for our buck, so we got 2 rooms at POP, and just spent a lot of time at the parks. Well, you can imagine where this is going, I have to admit that my husband was the author of the POP=Walmart post that got shut down. I know Vanessa said you all had a good laugh over that one. I don't think he has gotten back on the boards since, and leaves that up to me. Anyways, I think I called Vanessa on my way home from the airport and told her we were going to take the plunge because I could not vacation again like that, even though we had a great time. I just need to enjoy my surroundings also. I started my research on the DIS and have been hooked ever since:love:
We actually leave for our summer trip in 2 weeks at the Fort, long story of why we are going there, but we are using our developer points. Our first trip to AKL is Jan 09 over MKL. We are doing the Deluxe plan this trip and are just doing the water parks, eating, and hanging out. We have 3 meals at GF, so I am excited. My first trip to the GF was when I was in high school, and I remember thinking that was the coolest place because I got my own robe, and I loved hanging out by the pool looking for boys. Oh, how times have changed!! Welll, good night all, and Hope I am welcome here.:cloud9:

Hi Evie. Nice to meet you. I've taken my kids to Citrico's and they liked it. My husband and I liked it a lot as well, though we prefer Narccoossee's. Have fun on your trip!

Lesley- we really enjoy AKL! :thumbsup2

So did we!

Chan --I'm so sorry I missed wishing you a Happy Birthday yesterday. I hope it was fabulous! I'll be celebrating my 42nd in a few weeks, but unfortunately, not at WDW. How are V and J?

Have a good day everyone! It's supposed to be 99 today with 97% humidity and a chance of rain. The weather people hadn't said anything about a chance of rain yesterday, but we got a downpour around 8 p.m. It was wonderful, as we've been so dry late spring/early summer.

hey all!

I am ready to go but waiting for the family, hha...so here i am! we are grabbing a quick bfast and then off to dhs. MGM. I still always callit MGM.

had a nice gaspies dinner up here last night. I had kona booked, but we were tired out from the day and wanted to just relax here and hang out. the pizza is nasty. the chicken nuggets are decent. they are nuggets again vs the strips they were in March....isn't that crazy? people apparently complained that they wanted nuggets back...and Disney listened?!?!?! How often does that happen?

Thanks Marci! I need to tell they HEY, from marci in tx! They are great. All good. I have to say....one day Col lost his key in the pool...well..he called up - this was before v & J wre on duty and it wasn't M, either....the cm said he would cancel the key. He didn't cancel it. The bar tab ran thru fine and then i checked with v later and she said IT"S AN ACTIVE KEY!!! ugh. (oh. ya..missed telling ya that part - ) Col iddn't realize that the waitress kept the key (for 4 hrs haha) and so it wasn't really lost but when we got it back, he wanted to make sure it was either cancelled or active...i brought it to v to make a new one, and then found out it was still active. that would have sucked to have some bozo charging up a storm on that card!!:scared1:

so word to the wise...V&J are great.

anyway...the family crew is about ready so i am OFF to DHS.

talk to ya all later!! PS..the buses have been fine! No issues wth them at all....crossing fingers i didn't just jinx myself haha...but so far so good.

take care & have a great day - talk to ya later!! and Sheli!! Way to go on the RPC upgrade!!! You will love it! Did i mention I LOVE THIS PLACE!!!!??!?!??

Chan

Mike where have you been...lots of uproar on the boards..DRAMA!

Chan~have another great day! Wish i was there!

Annette~its getting close!

back to work, TTFN
dawn

Good evening actually its morning now,

Its very humid today and we are putting in ACs that are sort of like central air.
I had never heard of them before 2 weeks ago.

They put the AC unit outside and run a wire(?) tubing(?) through the wall to the Vent on the inside.
I have one unit going to three rooms and a second to two rooms.

They are incredibly quiet and I cant wait for them to all be working by Thursday.

have a great night..i mean morning.
Mike

WOW, I Am laughing because you have never heard of C/A! EVERY house built in FLA has it, not even a option! LOL!

WE are having to replace ours! SUCKS! It is costing us mega bucks becasue the duct work and everything is bad..... We are gonna add two units this time because we plan on turning our sun room, carport, huge laundry room and a big room behind the LR into living space! That will add another 1000 sq ft to our house! YAY!

The only problem is I cant go to the GF trip b/c of the expense!

CHAN ~ SO glad the rain did not ruin your fun! I was bad here lots of lightning and we lost power several times! Yikes! Also our neighbors tree had larger limb fall on our privacy fence and messed it up...only problem is those neighbors house is in foreclosure and they moved out long ago...... so who's gonna fix our fence and cleanup? Probably us! We are already mowing the yard over their b/c it got so high and disgusting that we were afraid snakes were gonna come take over! It is screwy around here with all the foreclosures!

Boy, Dawn i'm away for a day and I miss everything lol

Wow great way to add the space!!

Now you have me laughing lol
I've heard of central air but just never heard of this type. You don't need ducts because everything is outside and the air gets fed through a tube from outside, through the wall and into the vent that is hanging on the inside wall.

here is a better description i found

Installing a ductless central air-conditioning system which allows you to vary room temperatures in different rooms can cut your utility bills and improve your comfort over a standard system. There is no need to keep bedrooms very cool during the day or the living or dining rooms cool overnight.

A ductless system works in a similar manner to a standard ducted central air conditioner. There is a small compressor unit located outdoors on the ground or mounted against a wall.

Instead of having pipes with the cooling refrigerant connected to the heat pump or furnace blower duct system in the utility room, attic or basement, they are attached to a mini-cooling blower unit in a room(s). Only a three-inch-diameter hole needs to be drilled through the wall for the pipes.

The individual indoor blower units can be mounted on the ceiling or high on a wall. They are typically only about three feet long, one foot high and very shallow so they are not readily noticeable. Some other designs can be recessed into the ceiling or hidden away in a corner near the ceiling.

These indoor blower units are not noisy like window air conditioners because the compressor is located far away outdoors.

A dual- or three-zone system should adequately cool most homes. This is similar to having two or three separate small central air conditioners, each with its own adjustable thermostat. Although cool air naturally circulates throughout all the rooms in your home, you still can cool some areas more than others to realize savings from zone cooling.

I actually have to get 3 units installed which will cover 8 rooms and have 6 wall units. Each wall unit can be set at a different temp which is great when some of like it freezing and others just like it cool. lol

here is a picture showing one vent with one unit. The perspective is off though because the wall unit would be much smaller in relation to that guy. I have one unit covering the living room/dining room and kitchen. Another unit going to 2 bedrooms and a third unit going to the other 3 bedrooms.

Good Morning All! :goodvibes
(Have I mentioned how much I love this multi quote thing! :thumbsup2 )

I am really glad to hear that! In what ways is it better/different from the GF? We've never thought about staying there before so I don't know much about it.

Lesley, AKL is night and day from the GF. It is darker etc. We went at Christmastime, so that added to the ambience for me! I think the lobby at AKL BLOWS AWAY the lobby at WL. You can see the animals from almost everywhere (DS always wanted to run the balcony first thing to see what the giraffes were doing!!). The only thing that is strange is the elevator bank. The restaraunts are on ground floor and the lobby is on the 4th(?) and the elevators don't go from top to bottom- you need to make a change at some point (Kind of like on a cruise ship) That was slightly annoying since we ate at the Mara for breakfast a lot. The Boma breakfast is AWEOME (try the frunch!) but we never tried dinner since we like to eat out of the hotel most of the time. Anyway, we really like it and will definitely try it again. They don't sharea bus with anyone which is a HUGE plus!

GO RED SOX.

Woohoo!!! Keep beating those Twins!!!

Well, actually it was my husband,:) but I tried to save him after he got accused of hating walmart, poor people, etc... People sometime have no clue. I have learned how sensitive people can get when you are just giving an opinion or trying to save them from a bad experience. All, I know is POP will never be in my plans again. Are you a Chicago girl? I am heading your way Sat. We are also going to Melting Pot to eat. I am so looking forward to my chocolate fondue and wine:cool1:

We just stayed at Pop in May. It was sandwiched between 2 GF stays :scared1: We went in with LOW expectations so we were pleasantly surprised. We spent NO time in the room (except to sleep) and only ate breakfast at the food court twice. But the buses were amazing and DS loved being by the Big Wheel and Mickey Phone. I also requested a lakeside room and when they tried to put my elsewhere, I POLITELY insisted on the lakeside room in the Mickey Phone building (which we got)

I am from Chicago burbs (not far from Chan). We LOVE the Melting Pot!! We go every year for our anniversary to one of the suburban locations.

I believe when you look up the word "pesky" in the dictionary, you will find a picture of Manny Ramirez. Geesh. Will my Twins get it done today????

(They have been two very entertaining games I must say- I just didn't like the outcome!)

Here's to a better day in Boston for my Twins! Even if it will be in the 90s!:scared1:

Um...no... GO BOSTON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good Morning All!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope everyone is having a great day!!!!

How about them Red Sox ;)

Keep it coming!!! We won last night too so the lead is now 2.5!!!!!!!!!!! (And I think Tampa lost too, so that's good for you!!)

We are off to the pool soon so have a great day!!

Kristin

Wow Lesley ~ Disney with a newborn.... that sounds interesting :rotfl2:

It is my favorite age to travel with, and easiest (IMO)! I just pop them in my Moby Wrap and wear them all day! And I exclusively breastfeed so no bottles or formula to worry about!

Thanks for all of the info! The elevator situation sounds interesting.... and let me tell you I am so excited for DH and my in-laws to try Boma and Jiko.... they are from South Africa!

Oh talking about breastfeeding (which I did too)

I saw the AK nursing station while I was there... took a peek.... NICE!!!!!! I was at the first aid station (don't ask :rotfl2: ) and saw it right next door.

It nursing room is really cute!

Jiko's is my fav place to eat at Disney. I love their food!!!

I guess I should add that we stayed at AKL a few years back and i had a huge nightmare trip... I hated that resort:scared:

I hope you have better luck!!!

Remember, that particular resort is in the boondocks and not close to ANYTHING....

The only things we liked about the AKL was the savannah view in the morning and Jiko's!

Also.... not sure of the date but I do remember reading that they are closing the savannah's (no animals) during a certain time period because of the construction. I can't remember when it was supposed to happen but when I read that I thought to myself "How crappy would that be to have a savannah view with no animals :rotfl: "

We didn't really care for AKL either. It just wasn't our thing. Even the Savannah view was eh for us, as we mostly saw a wild jeep driving around

We had a 1 BR suite and it was nice, but we won't go there again

Hope you like it though Lesley!

PS, you must be brave to go with a newborn and all of your other young children!

Lesly, I hope you have a great trip and like the AKL! I visited a few weeks ago and really liked it.... it is darker than the GF like Kristin said but thats the theming! My sister and I both agreed it would be a fun place to stay in the winter, they have a great fire pit in lobby. I loved looking at all the artifacts, but i am a nerdy girl, LOL! Your boys will love the savanna, we saw giraffes, zebras, and and a bull with these HUGE horns! Oh yea, they have a great play ground which would be great for your boys!

I am sure your TA can find out about the animals, I hope they are there!

We all LOVE the GF, but I really want to take my kids to the AKL! They would LOVE it!
