mickeynut, it happened again!

I return this morning to so many posts, I'm having trouble keeping up.
BlueSkies -

I found my photo of the CL menu, but as I thought, it wasn't legible due to the glare. I do have the list they give you at check in, inside the green packet - but I think it is identical to the posting on the first page. I'll check later today and update, if needed.
I've been a Poly 'guy' for a while but the combination of Poly construction uncertainty and the enthusiasm all of you share for the GF has swayed me to change my plans. It also didn't hurt that we were able to take advantage of the summer discount offered today... We'll be spending 10 days in July at the GF (Lagoon View) and I welcome any suggestions you guys might have. Thanks in advance!
Congrats on your booking, I think you'll love the Grand.
Hey all! I have the pleasure of staying at GF this year, which is our second visit to WDW. Our first stay was at the Poly and my kids ( 3 and 7 yrs old) loved the Poly, but with all the renov we decided to stay at GF for the week of Thanksgiving this year. I was lucky enough to book a Standard Deluxe room in the RPC. I think there's only like 4 or 6 of those rooms. Any particular room number I should ask for? Hoping to be closer to the lounge. Thanks for any insight you can provide.

Yes, there are 6 - 2 "triangular" rooms over the Beach Pool area, 4 rectangular rooms over the courtyard pool area. With so few rooms to choose from, it's not really necessary to ask for a particular room number, in my opinion. If you have a preference for the layout (triangular or rectangular) or view, you can put that in your requests.
Needing a little Grand love.

Some of the other threads on the boards today..whew! People get so worked up they scare me!

I ran back over here as fast as I could.
Here are a couple of photos to warm your hearts with nostalgia. I take my Grand lunchbag and my Grand tea cup to work every day. Yes, I am a dork. I own up to it.
Awww.

Sorry for the bruising, I certainly understand. DISers can sometimes get carried away, huh?!
Thanks for the photos, what a pretty tea cup. I use one of the old fountain mugs for my ice water every day - except it's from the Poly!

We rarely drink pop, so I'm sad to say I never ended up with one of the old Alice themed GF mugs.
I love the Grand it's just so Grand!

Me, too.
I did a little bit of sleuthing last night and found a couple of more pics from one of the other sites...
Thanks!!

Good sleuthing.

Glad you finally found more photos, looks like they will be adding a chair, at least.
Good morning friends!

I am trying to get caught up here. TA got back to me yesterday about discount. Unfortunately, SL is not part of the summer discount. Oh well, we are going anyway!
Still no news from DS top college pick. Maybe some pixie dust will be sprinkled today!
Have a Grand Day!

Must be nerve wracking, waiting for word from that college.

Fingers still crossed.
....I still personally prefer the old rooms.
Me, too.
We have always had connecting rooms in the past. They always had armchairs. The armchairs were across from the day bed and next to the glass slyding doors.
Same here, we get rooms with connecting doors all the time and have always had a chair (except in the dormer room, I think).
Very excited to stay RPC with our entire family this summer. We recently added time and will be there for 8 days instead of 5 We will be staying in a deluxe queen room for the first time. I think the extra space will be nice

You'll love it! Those rooms are huge.
HUGE HELLO and

Somehow I am working less, but I am busier..how does that happen????
I have been lurking We are surprisingly STILL at YC, but I've upgraded us to CL..shocker for those who know me. I was going to switch yesterday, but it was only $84 dollars saved (total not per night..and that is two rooms)
Regarding Orbitz, you have to keep stalking, I notices sometimes the discounts are stackable, and sometimes they are not. I guess it's all about availability. I was able to book RPC at 30% WDW discount plus 20% from Orbitz, alas we ended up at Universal in December. I find persistence usually pays off, one of the benefits of being a resort changer!
Okay, back to homework

Miss my GF friends!! I'll still be lurking, no worries!!
Hey, girl!!

Good to "see" you! LOL about still being at YC - is this a record?!
I've noticed the same thing on Orbitz, it seems to me you have to check often and pay attention to get the extra savings. More than once, I checked after reading on the DIS there was an extra discount, only to be disappointed. Then, voila! It would be there.
One quick note about the discounts available on Orbitz...
I have read about discount codes available on Orbitz on top of the WDW promotional rates. If you apply code DISCOVER, you will get a rate that is 20% off the promotional rates.
I booked a GF lagoon view room for 10 nights yesterday through Disney at a total cost of $3,715.66 all-in.
I tried to recreate the same booking on Orbitz. I applied the discount code and arrived at a total of $3,718.65 after taxes and fees.
One other difference I noticed is that you have to pay for the trip in full at the time of booking. While the trip may be cancelled and your money refunded, you still have to lay all of it upfront. I personally prefer to keep my money in my pocket.
If anyone has had a different experience, I'd love to see if they were able to actually save a significant amount of money. My feeling is that the 'discount' is only covering the taxes and fees.
As others have posted, it occasionally takes some work to find the Orbitz discounts. We have booked on Orbitz in the past and gotten a HUGE discount over the WDW website and any other discount, frankly.
One thing to note - the WDW rooms discounts are not always available with the current Orbitz code, and when they are, not all resorts come up. You have to look for the resorts with the words "Promo Code Eligible" on the search results page. Then, when you click on that resort, there will often be several rooms listed and maybe even the words "view more results" - this may or may not lead to cheaper rooms.
Paying in full is a bummer, I agree, but if the discount is good it can be worth it.
Good luck!
So excited! First, I rebooked thru Orbitz last night and saved extra $$$. Our original ressie thru Disney for July 23 -29 GV room was $2185.02. Rebooked thru Orbitz using the "discover" code and new total was $1816.01. For those having trouble, I noticed that if I clicked on a "choose this room" for another category(like club level), it opened another screen showing the totals for that chosen room AND the rates for the rooms underneath the chosen category were then lower. I then chose the GV room I wanted at a lesser rate than it originally showed on the first screens. Not sure why it does this

But...not complaining! After completing my booking, I then called Orbitz customer service to have them call Disney wholesale to add the other guests onto my ressie as well as my room requests of non-connecting and higher floor. I was on hold quite a while with the agent waiting on hold w/Disney but the agent for Orbitz was ever so polite and often checked in with me while we were on hold to let me know he was still there, and then when he got the other agent on the line and making sure our requests and info were added correctly. This morning, I called Disney and cancelled the original ressie and added the new one to MDE and everyone was on the ressie correctly. Tomorrow I will add ME and order tix from UT. HTHs for those having problems!
YAY!

Way to go on the savings. We have used Orbitz, as I mentioned, and had no problems at all. Got a WDW-type reservation number and was able to contact IPO. This was prior to MM+, however, so I have no experience there.
I think it depends on the room category, etc. too. I was having good luck getting an additional discount on CL at WL or AKL for July.

No offense, but I'm considering switching because of it!
Sent from my iPad using DISBoards
Yes, I think that is exactly right. Some categories come up with the discount, others do not.
No worries, we all understand the need for a good discount - hard to pass up, right?!
Secondly......SO EXCITED to see a chair in that photo! Can't wait to see if it is added to all the rooms or ??? Need more pics...and a nesting table too
YES - maybe some of the other missing pieces will show up eventually. I still do not care for the color scheme and lack of theming, but having a chair is critical.
