Here's the scenario:
I have 5 nights booked for my friend in an AKV standard studio. I have those same 5 nights waitlisted in a value studio. I was just stalking the website and noticed one of the nights available in a value, so I grabbed it. Hoping to piece together all five nights by booking individual nights when they pop up. So now I have her name on a standard and her name on a value for one of the nights. Will the value get cancelled? Should I call MS and change the name on it?

Double bookings cause all kinds of issues with things like Magic Bands and online check-in. Ive spoken directly with Members Services about it and while it wont cancel the other reservation it definitely makes things a mess to manage. Why don't you just book the friends room under their name? Like you would for a renter.

Both rooms are booked under her name. One of the rooms will be cancelled long before we deal with Magic Bands and online check-in. Even before FP and ADRs.

Do this all the time and it is never an issue. I am currently holding both a studio at RIV and BLT next fall over the 1st of October in my daughters name.

She is not sure where she wants to stay and if she will actually go.

But, when trying to pick up rooms via stalking, I do what you did. Book what I can until I either get the waitlist, get it myself or cancel it.

I also will double book a night when doing split stays too.

In your case, it’s temporary until you get it. Good luck!!

Great, thanks! This is so reassuring. I've actually been able to book the last night as well. So my next question is if I should change the waitlist. Right now I have all five nights waitlisted. I just started the waitlist yesterday. Since I can have two waitlists, should I do one waitlist for her first night and then another waitlist for the two middle nights?

I would adjust for sure and do it like that. It’s what I do as well. I find it works better and I have a higher success of ending up with what I want, which has pretty much been about 98%

Thanks! I set up the waitlists for her first night and then the two middle nights. Since then, I was able to book the 8th (originally she was checking out on the 8th but she is flexible on her dates). So now I’m wondering if it would be better to cancel the waitlist for the 3rd and then do two waitlists for the 5th and 6th individually. Would that increase my chances of getting those two nights?

I do this all the time and square it when it's finalized. I was see why it could be a problem with magic bands.
