Have you used your SWA reward points for AirTran tickets?

I just read on the SWA site that you can convert your SWA rapid rewards points to use on Air Tran.

I found some cheaper flights on Air Tran, so I am thinking of doing this.

Has anyone done this? Can you tell me your experience with it?

The website says both airlines are still separate right now, but soon, they will both have the same "rules." Like 2 bags free, open seating, etc.

TIA!

I did this a few weeks ago for my flight home from Orlando in December. I much preferred AirTran's later non-stop flight than the one (the only one :( ) that SWA had. It was a very easy process. The only thing that is different is that price really isn't a factor. You exchange 1,200 SWA rapid reward points for one AirTran A+ rewards credit. It takes 8 A+ rewards for a one way flight (regardless of cost). With the "exchange rate" of 60 SWA RR points = $1, that means that a one way flight on AirTran is "worth" $160. I am lucky enough to have quite a few RR points, so I think I may upgrade to business class on my flight as well . I am a self-admitted over packer, so I "need" 2 checked bags :confused3.

I have companion pass status on SWA. i wonder if this status works on AirTran now?

Aaaaah! Got it. I was thinking the points worked like RR points: the cheaper flights use less points.

OK, so maybe I will rethink it. The flight I was looking at was $77 one way at AirTran. I may just pay out-of-pocket for that flight.

Thanks for your reply!

I wonder what "soon" means. I paid to pick my seats on Airtran. When the changeover happens, I hope they automatically give those that already paid for seats on Airtran EBCI.
