DH and I are discussing using epoxy on our new garage floor. Has anyone done this themselves? What brand did you use? Any tips? Color choices?

I used some on a cement floor. It went on pretty well, and looked great.

It was in a very wet area, though, and began to bubble up and peel. I probably should have used a more heavy duty stuff, the real cheap version is more like paint than epoxy.

My dh did it to our garage floor. He ordered it over the internet because it was cheaper than Home Depot. It was not that hard for him, just time consuming because it is recommended that you wash down the garage floor and then when you apply the epoxy you are supposed to do it in 4x4 squares.

It looks great though!

If you are going to apply the epoxy in an area where it will get wet frequently and be walked on while wet, I strongly encourage you to use the kind with sand grit in it.

Also, if the area is going to be in a full sun area, you may want to buy a more expensive brand of sealant that will not discolor. Unfortunately my brother did not do that on my enclosed back porch that gets lots of sun and it is yellowed. :(

One more tip, paint chips in the epoxy look fantastic especially when heavily applied. You can buy them here... http://www.floorchips.com/color_chips.html

One thing to consider in a garage floor is that the paint chips chosen should not be the color of commonly used garage items, like screws, bolts, etc. Many people don't think of that only to discover that everytime they drop something on the floor it blends in with the chip color! :guilty:
