Just wondering if a sharpie will bleed through the autograph books purchased at disney. Or if it would be big enough for the characters to hold. I think maybe if you put a piece of thicker paper like card stock in between the sheets as they sign, that should work to prevent bleeding through to the next page. I read that they sell big character friendly pens in the park, is that what is most generally used? Thanks

Not sure about the paper in the books they sell at Disney. We purchased some online and the paper was about notebook paper thin. We just brought a thick pen from home :)

We used a red sharpie in the green autograph book that they sell at Disney that also holds photos and it did not bleed through. I have heard that the characters won't use green because it ruins their fur.

We had a bad experience with buying a character pen at the park, it wouldn't work half the time, but maybe we got a dud.

I like the Kooky pens. You can get them at Staples or WDW has Disney character ones.

They have a clip to attach to the autograph book, backpack, fanny pack, etc. They are shorter and chubbier than a regular pen. Press the top and out comes the pen. Makes it easy for the characters to open. No lid to loose and your child won't end up with pen/marker on their clothes.

I hand the pen and autograph book to my niece just before she meets the character. Less chance of her opening the pen.

We use the retractable sharpies in the blue Disney World autograph books and have never had a problem. We have each character sign using a different color. Much nicer and more colorful imo than using a pen or the same color throughout. We do not have them sign on the back of a page that has been signed though as the signature on the front does show through to the back side but it does not put any marks on the next page. Also there are plenty of pages in the book which allows for doing this as well. We have only come close to filling a book once and that was only because we went twice in one year and used the same book for both trips. We do a good amount of character greets in 10 days as we do a fair amount of character meals as well as line up in the parks. Also we have never had any problem with them signing using a green sharpie or any other color for that matter.

We also use the retractable Sharpies (no signing on backs of pages) and it works fine.

I think the characters prefer the retractable pens over the smaller one since they are easier to grab and no one has to deal w/ caps.

We've used the retractable sharpies in different shades of lighter to medium colors- light blue, orange, pink. They worked great.

My niece used the Encyclopedia of Disney Characters as her autograph book and used the retractable sharpies. It was really nice because I bought her a 8 or 10 pack and she was able to choose a color for each character. They didn't have a problem holding them.

We have used the retractable sharpies in the past, and will do so again this fall. I can't speak on the autograph books that Disney sells, but we made our own and didn't have a problem. Like PP's have said, we only use one side of a page and the autograph shows on the back side - but we only use the one side because I take the pages out of the books after the trip and make a scrapbook album with pictures of the kids with the characters and the autograph pages.

Hi there :)

I'm loving your idea of using this book as the autograph book. How did you get along with it??

We also made our own autograph books with different colored cardstock and used retractable Sharpies in all colors. We bought the kids some cheap stickers of their favorite characters and they placed them on a piece of cardstock and then when we found that character we had them sign their "card" and when we got home bound them all into a book. It helped the kids with the countdown to our trip and was different from the other 10 disney bought autograph books we already have.

We didn't have anyone sign the backs and we used that page to put our picture of the kids with the autographed Character. The Sharpie never bled or smeared. I carried all the cardstocks in a Ziploc withthe Sharpies. It was a little inconvienant but well worth it!

I used this same book for my kids, it worked great. I took it to Staples beforehand and had them cut the binding off and spiral bind it. It cost about 7 dollars but was worth it, the book opened completely flat, plus I could clip the retractable sharpie to the spriral rings. We also got a lot of great interaction from the characters, they would get really excited when they saw their picture and would take time to read what it said about them. The best was chip and dale, we couldnt hardly get the book back, they were going thru it and writing things about the other characters. My kids favorite comment was "Donald Stinks".

This is great to hear - thanks! I ordered the book off amazon. Just waiting for it to arrive! What is the best type of pen/marker to use for the autographs? Something that won't bleed through obviously :) Sharpie?
