Have you tried San Angel Inn?

We've eaten there three times over the years. The first time, I was sick afterwards, but not sure it was the food. the second and third time we were careful what we ordered. The tables are very close together, but the atmosphere and decor can't be beat

I am from AZ and travel quite a bit to Mexico. Typical Mexican food in the USA even the good stuff in border states is not very authentic.

At San Angel you won't find much in the way of tacos, burritos etc. except a bit on the lunch menu. What you will find is some excellent authentic (not Tex-Mex!) Mexican food. San Angel is one of our favorites but if you're looking for typical Gringo Americanized Mexican then this is not the place for you.

Our son's GF loves San Angel and she was born and grew up in Mexico City. Says it reminds her of home!

Growing up with a part Mexican heritage I agree in theory that it is supposed to be authentic Mexican not Americanized Mexican.But Believe me it still falls far short of it.

I disagree. Like any country food style varies widely thoughout Mexico. What most people in the USA call Mexican is for the most part Sonoran style Mexican. Sonora being the state that borders Arizona. As you head further south towards Mexico City the food styles change considerably. San Angel is very similar to the foods found there as well as cities such as Oaxaca, Gaudalajara, Veracruz etc.

My DH is one of the most picky eaters I have EVER encountered, even worse then my 7 yr old daughter. San Angel is his favorite WS restaurant. Please bear in mind that if you want a typical taco, that the CS in Mexico is the place for you. I find the meal to be very nice, you can't beat the atmoshphere and it is definately not the "same old" food you get at some of the other places. I say give it a shot, you may be pleasantly surprised.

wow..I went and changed my ADR I was going to eat at San Angel for dinner but I switched to a diffrent place..mind you I am Hispanic but there is more bad reviews here then good..and I really dont want to have to run to the ladies room..Maybe I will try it for lunch..Thanks for all the reviews

I have to agree here. DH and I ate at San Angel Inn last Sept during free dining. I LOVE Mexican and Spicy food. Our Service was awful and we were so crammed and packed like sardines in the restaurant.

To top it off.... that night lets just say the food "went right through me" that night . Ugh....... that was our experience.......

I'm glad that I'm not the only one that has "rented" San Angel Inn's food. We gave it 2 tries and the last time it was so horrible we vowed never again!! Definitely felt like sardines in there - we were lucky to see our waiter 1x to take the order & 1x to leave the bill. Never saw him in between - he wasn't the one to bring food (if you could call it that) or refill drinks. Overall it was a miserable experience, not to be done again!!

The cuisine is not Tex-Mex. If you go expecting the Tex-Mex food that is so common in the Southwest U.S., you'll be surprised and likely disappointed.

It is much closer to the cuisine I had when I was in Mexico City. We've usually enjoyed the food, keeping in mind it's a 1TS restaurant in the age of the DDP with all that suggests.

Service is rushed and perfunctory. As for atmosphere, they have squeezed so many tables and chairs into such a tiny space that it's ridiculous. But, they've done that at nearly every Epcot restaurant, so if you're eating at Epcot it's as good a choice as any other, IMO.

My DW and I have been all over Mexico and while yes, they may be ATTEMPTING to be authentic Mexican style food, they fail miserably. The food tasts like dog doo doo . I have eaten many types of food in Mexico and live in Texas where we eat Tex-Mex and authentic Mexican. NO WHERE in any decent restraunt (even back street taquerias) have I had food as bad as San Angel Inn. Where in Mexico do you get served Tostitos brand corn chips and bottled Pace salsa??? I would have to say that the food in Mexico is a LOT better than many of the restaruants at WDW and far exceeds the San Angel Inn food. I won't even get on the lousy service and the instant tea they serve (which is only sweetened now). They can't even brew fresh tea..

Its so laughable they even have bags of tostitos chips in the little shops inside the pavilian..

Well put..when Mexican food is done right it's unbelieveable food..I could never in my life imagne serving bagged corn chips..my kids did not even know you could by corn chips from a bag until they were in jr high we always fry them..I am so glad I got rid of ADR at San Angles

Well.. when it comes to time and money spent eating there.. I am not sure many will find it as amusing as you do.. It is fact they serve less than authentic mexican food, it is fact, they don't brew ice tea and use instant, it is fact, that the service is many times horrible, it is fact that DW's food was cold when served last and my and DD's steak was char burnt on the outside and had a horrible bitter taste..

Sure opinions about food are wide, but if someone asks for input they are looking for help in deciding if the money and time will be well spent or if they should go some where else..

Totally accurate review! The food is quite authentic, and not at all the Taco Bell swill most people consider to be Mex.ican food. It's not all about crunchy gordita tacos, folks!
