I've decided on all of our dining reservations....but am lingering on the last one, so I was checking out San Angel Inn. Do you know how the food is? And how is the atmosphere?

My dd16 is a picky eater and so I was looking at their menu and everything I saw looks like things she won't eat! So do they have just plain old enchiladas or can she order chicken tenders from the kids menu just a larger portion?

Thanks for the input!

Atmosphere is wonderful...inside the pavilion it's always nighttime, with a dark sky, a plaza lit by lanterns & a volcano in the distance. I have not eaten there in a while, but the food was always really good. I'm sure that the chef would/could make a simple ench. or quesadilla or something for you DD. I'd try it!

This is only one opinion, but my advice would be to...run...the other direction. The food and service were terrible here. This is not based on one dining experience either. I know others will disagree and I certainly understand because we all have different tastes, but we have finally crossed this restaurant off our list for good. You should probably give it a try and form your own opinion, but you asked and for what it's worth, this is our experience.

I'm going to come down 'firmly in the middle' on this one. We like the atmosphere here and the service has been fine, but the food has been hit-or-miss for us. Our first time there (dinner) was great but when we went back for lunch on our next visit it was just ok. We have been back for dinner once since then and the food was not as impressive as our first visit but still decent. The dinner menu is more extensive and better in my opinion, but based on our experiences we probably won't be rushing back.

I agree with the above poster. We went there last August and I have never had such terrible service or had such awful food in my life. We were on the free Disney Dining plan and I wondered how much that had to do with it. The atmosphere was really nice, but that would be the only positive thing I could say.

Great atmosphere (and the boat ride is a great way to relax after dinner). The food is decent (not as good as some local Mexican places I have eaten but good). They will help you out in accomodating picky eaters. We went with my inlaws last time and while my wife and I were looking for the most adventurous food on the menu (I found out I liked ceveche...go figure) they were looking for the least threatening thing on the menu. They made several requests and all were granted (lack of sause etc.).

We were pleased and will definitely eat there again.

I will NEVER eat there again. DD3 and I ate there this past summer to give it 1 more chance. We were sick to our stomachs and in the bathroom almost immediately after we left. Nasty, gross, yuck........

We eat there nearly every trip, and we really like the food. Service is kind of meh, we've never had a really on-top-of-it server, but the food was good enough that we can look past a wait for drinks.

My only complaint is the chips. They're not very good.

well geesh I got a variety of answers!! thanks. what boat road is near there that RllngRckBrw mentioned?

Any other suggestions that would be a fun atosphere for us with good food? We have 11 credits so we have the following so far:

Ohanas
Planet Hollywood
Chef Mickeys
Crystal Palace
Hoopty Doo- 2credits
CRT-2 credits
Whispering Canyon (1st time going)
Le Cellier

I know alot of people are thinking that 2 credits is too much for CRT but we went there the first time when it was just one credit and when we went last September we skipped but this will be our last trip for a couple of years and dd8 wants to go to it and by the time we go back again she won't want to so thats why we agreed to do the two credits at CRT.

We have agreed to not go to Sci Fi's again for now, and we have enough buffets and character dining with the ones that I've listed...so any more suggestions for us?

Thanks.

I agree they have better Mexican food at Taco Bell. We are from Texas so we have Mexican food on every corner, so we are haRDER ON mEXICAN REST.I thought the service was not very good also. We had to keep asking for tea.and it was so dark in the rest. my husband dropped his hat and we could not see to find it. The waiter gave us a flashlight to look for it. We ate there 25 years years ago and the food has still not improved this is the last time we go there.

I have to agree here. DH and I ate at San Angel Inn last Sept during free dining. I LOVE Mexican and Spicy food. Our Service was awful and we were so crammed and packed like sardines in the restaurant.

To top it off.... that night lets just say the food "went right through me" that night  . Ugh....... that was our experience.......

i will eat just about anything, and i couldn't get this food down. :scared: my kids just stared at it the whole time...what a waste of a perfectly good dining credit...

We are going to try it soon . Later this week...
The atmosphere looks great!

I am a little concerned after reading this...
How bad can Mexican food be? :lmao:

I'll let you know when I return.
If I survive...

We're going again this year. I've always been okay with San Angel, but it is definitely not one of my faves. The atmosphere really is one of the best in Disney, but the food is really just okay. It's definitely different from the TexMex I eat all the time. So we are going with a couple that has never been and this was her choice. He's from Nicaragua so I'll let you know what he has to say about it. He is super picky about the mexican places we eat at around here.

We've eaten there a few times and the service was fine, the atmosphere beautiful and the good was good. And the other half is the type to have to rush to the bathroom within the hour if it's too spicy. He's never had to do that. And I can be pretty picky but never had any complaints after each meal there.

Stink, stank, stunk!!! I've only eaten there once, but you couldn't pay me enough to eat there again. It was just really gross. Granted I've lived in Texas and had some of the best Mex.ican food ever there. It was just really yucky and I had a hard time choking it down. There are so many better places to eat.

Skip it and find somewhere else to eat.

I'm really picky, and I like the nachos there. (And a friend got them and liked them, too.) They're only on the menu for dinner, but I bet they could whip them up at lunch, too. How hard are nachos? I had to get them to leave off things like tomatoes and peppers, and they did fine with that.

I won't be eating there on my next trip, though, because it's during the F&W Fest. and I'll get all the food I need from that. ;) (Last year at the same time I was going to try to eat there, but I underestimated how full I was by the time I got around to Mexico. :rotfl2: )

Wow! Some tough reviews around here. I have eaten there about 5 or 6 times and I know we are in the big minority but we love it! We enjoy the food, the atmosphere and have never noticed unusually slow service. All I can say is give it a try if you really want to and form your own opinion. There are so many good restaurants at Disney that you should be able to find something you like. Just use your gut in what you think you would enjoy. Mexico might not be for you but our family really enjoys it!
