Hi- I posted earlier about "cheapest, clean hotels", but I realized I wasn't accurate in my posting. I'm curious about the hotels that show up on hotelkingdom, orbitz, etc in the $30-$50 range...the Best Inn, Super 8, Days Inn, Econolodges, etc., as well as local stuff like the Apollo Inn. We hit Disney about three times a year, spend very little time in the hotel room, but can't stand musty/smokey rooms. We usually get something thru Sky Auction or hotelkingdom, which turn out to be pretty nice places at a huge deal, but I'm curious about the cheaper hotels in the area in case I find anything truly too good to turn down (Master's Inn in Kiss turned up at $29/night last week)...anything you'd recommend/avoid?

the Laquinta Inn at Lakeside was very nice and then pretty cheap - I think I paid $29 a night.

I stayed in the Motel 6 once. the problem was not the motel - it was okay - it was the management - to say that they were rude would be and understatement....

I also stayed in Comfort Inn - again my results were strange - the girl who checked me in was high - very, very high.... So the next morning (with the new staff) I had some problems - but the motel did fix everything in the end.

Won't stay there again.

The hotels that are generally available for under $50/ night are older properties that may need renovation. I stayed in a Knights Inn a number of years ago. Continental breakfast was stale donuts and coffee that was not even as good as instant. Room had mold, towels were threadbare, not even as good as what I use to wash my car, carpeting had cigarette burns... you get the picture.

As long as you have a car and can do without a free breakfast use PL. You should be able to get a 3* property for the $50 range. There are hotels that are normally more expensive but have promotional rates available from places like this site, mousesavers, hotelingoom and easyclicktravel. Nothing wrong with many of those properties. Just avoid the hotels in Kissimee that always have sub $50 rates.

Last year on our last night we stayed at a fairfield Inn, near universal, paid about $22 for it on priceline, it was my first time bidding on less than 3* it was 2*. only one word for it. DISGUSTING we got to the room about midnight, after a full day at IOA, in july, so we were beat! we enter our room turn on the lights and there were ants all over the table :crazy2: we turned right around a went to the front desk after about 15 minutes she located another room, very nice girl. We get in the room look around no ants so we put our stuff down take off our shoes and start to head for the bathroom, and realize that our socks are sticking to the carpet  horrible!! I'll never bid on 2* again

I have to say that my wife and I have stayed at nearly ever cheapo hotel on Hwy 192, West Irlo Bronson.

Stay away from most! Don't do the Econolodge, and don't do the Clarion. We now stay away from them, as we have found most of them on Hwy 192 to be dirty in the bathrooms, which is a no no for us.

Also at Econolodge we were there in the summer and the A/C was broken. They wouldnt put us in another room and sent up a repair man who simply replaced the filter, which did absolutely nothing to make the air cold. The Filter would have only caused more air to flow through if it was clogged, but it wasnt the issue, the issue was the air wasnt cold.

Plus safety is an issue with us. At econolodge the Deadbolt was broken. It was just bad.

HOWEVER HOWEVER HOWEVER HOWEVER HOWEVER!

The La Quinta Inn Lakeside was great. It was clean and safe, and the rooms were nice size! We stayed there just in January so it's a recent stay.

if you want a nice place at a lower price LaQuinta is it, and that's coming from someone who's stayed at them all.

We won La Quinta Inn Lakeside on Priceline for $19 a night last March. It was great!! The rooms were large and had a fridge.

We were just in FL a couple of weeks ago. We wanted to add on a couple of nights to our timeshare stay. I couldn't find anything since it was Presidents weekend. We ended up getting Days Inn in Lake Buena Vista for $30 a night. OMG....the room itself was fine. It was clean and of a good size. The hotel was a bit scary though. I won't stay there again.

We stayed at the LaQuinta Maingate last year for $#6. through Priceline. Nice clean hotel, good continental breakfast. Rooms were super clearn. You can get it for $46 through Knowbeforeugo.com. We also had the Sheraton Studio City last year for $42, this year we are staying there for $44, again through PL. We are also staing at the americuties in Calypso Cay for $51. There seems to be an increase in prices this year. Two yeras ago we got the Rosen Plaza for $28-$38 through PL. Hope this helps.

We got the Fairfield Inn at Marriott Village for $49(in Feb. 2005) a night through Easyclicktravel.com and it was great. It was just a couple miles from WDW, 1 mile from DTD and had lots of restaurants, shopping, etc around it. I would definitely recm'd it to anyone. You can also use the facilities at the SHS or CY that are within the gated complex. Continental breakfast was nice, even could make your own Mickey Mouse waffles for something hot! Good Luck!

how about days inn in old town??

We stayed at the Days inn suites, not sure if the days inn had the same problems, hotel looks bad from the outside, but when we got in it was nice and big and roomy, thought we were in heaven---not, ants all in the kitchen, just nasty
we stayed for 2 days as we were checking into our villa through skyauction i was so glad to get out of there.

Not sure how long anyone is staying but if you are staying more then 4 nights, i suggest you try skyauction i got 7 nights for a total of 216.00
i was thinking of priceline for 2 days on our next trip but still unsure

good luck in what ever you decide

I was just getting ready to post about Microtel (Canada Ave. off I-Drive). We paid $40 night thru Hotel Kingdom and were pleased. Nothing fancy, but the room was clean and most importantly to us, the beds were good quality. DH has a bad back and that's important. Decent continental breakfast in the lobby in the morning. We'd stay again for a night or two without a problem.

glad someone has stayed there, i know they are supposed to be fairly new, but was concerned...my parents are going with, and my mom would never let me live it down if it was a sleeze

I'm a skyauction girl.I love SKYAUCTION but we have stayed at Magic Castle Inn and Suite and love our little King Bed Suite.

It was our first trip in 2001, we stayed 11 nights. We had a fridge, microwave, coffee maker, free Krispy Kreeme donuts and a pull out sofa in a seperate little area of the room. We thought it was great at the time but now that we know about skyauction we would only stay there for a day or 2...but it was clean and the staff really nice.

Better yet, they have redone all their rooms now so it should be even better. I have pics of our first trip if anyone wants to see.

We stayed at the Ramada Inn and really were happy. They upgraded us to a KidSuite and we paid something like $39 or $49 a night - just called and asked for their best rate for that time period. (And checked online for good rates via the DISboards and their own website).

The KidSuite was awesome - kids had their own TV/VCR combo and bunk beds with a full/twin combo. Sponge bob sheets...they played with the girls' stuffed animals and left them on the ladder or watching TV (Very DIS) :) The pool was a little chilly, but we went in December, and the kiddie pool was great and really warm (but not yellow ;)) :rotfl:

It was all-in-all a clean place with a good sized fridge and microwave, plus a safe of course, and we had a king sized bed just beyond the half wall.

The building was very secure - very quiet - and we had a great time. :)

We've stayed in under $50/nite accomodations numerous times and have never had a bad experience. We've done the Days Inn LBV (no longer there-called something else now), the EconoLodge Maingate Hawaiian, Days Suites Old Town and others. All were fine, especially the Days Suites which I think gets a bad rap.

Most recently, November 2004, we rented an incredible 2-bed, 2-bath timeshare through SkyAuction for about $37/nite. That was definitely the best under $50 deal I've ever gotten.

So you can definitely get a perfectly nice place under $50.

The Days Inn I referred to in my post calls itself Days Inn Lake Buena Vista. It's on Apopka-Vineland next to the Waffle House.

Dh and I just stayed at the Days Inn Lake Buena Vista about a month ago--paid around $60 including tax--agree the room was fine but I agree the hotel was just a bit scary--some of the clientele looked a bit seedy (they probably said the same thing about DH and I pirate: ). It was the least expensive close place we could find at the last minute--all the Values and Moderates were booked solid.

We stayed at the Clarion Maingate twice in 2003 with Priceline bids of $31 and $26 per night. The Clarion is pretty threadbare but we thought it was very clean and felt safe. It's in a decent area of 192 and the staff were friendly and helpful. They had a tasty (but not free) breakfast buffet. We would stay there again for the price.

i was bad and didn't book a hotel for our stay in late Jan/early Feb, so we ended up staying in 3 different hotels on Hwy 192 in Kissimmee. (that hwy was a headache with the road construction!). The night we arrived we stayed at Econolodge Maingate Central and it wasn't anything to write home about. Too far away but it did have a free continental breakfast-- packaged debi cake-type things and very very hot coffee. It was fine for our first night (ie, we arrived late and left first thing in the morning). Walk-in price- $40

Next we stayed at the Travelodge Maingate east. They had a walk-in special going on- stay 3 nights pay for 2- working out to be just under $50 a night. the staff wasn't very friendly, but the hotel was nice. (i should say that I've never really stayed at a supernice hotel, always the cheapies, so that's what i have to compare it to). Plus, the discount rooms were on the top floor. I called it the penthouse suite ;) I forget how many floors there were, but it was a good view from up there. Plus they gave us new shampoos/soap everyday. that's always good in my book.

Next we stayed at Pop Century on-site! wow! what a splurge! that was fun, though I will say that Pop did NOT give us new soaps every day, which was a shame because I love the mickey soap!

Lastly we stayed Days Inn Maingate East and that was the worse! :sad2: Talk about not feeling safe! And unclean! Ants! We'd have to slam the door to get it to close fully, and then bits of the ceiling would fall! That place was $45 and so not worth it.

:flower:

yes, we were crazy to change hotels so much :confused3 Pop was fun but too expensive for me. It was neat to be on-site, but dang, once you are on it's a hassle to leave.....yet everything is so expensive you want to leave! I was actually really glad that we stayed off site for the most part and had a car. but that's just my opinion :)
