Latest news today, in addition to the NYPD undercover detective being arrested:
There is definitely a new video of the beating - possibly by a different person. It seems farther away, like shpt from the street. Maybe a bystander with a camera phone? A tiny sliver was given to the press. It shows just when the Good Samaritan had stepped in and was yelling at the bikers to back off. You can see about 6-7 bikers start to step back and move away. The poor SUV driver is lying on the ground. When he realizes it is over, he tries to push himself up, then (I think) collapses back down. (The police has said days earlier, when they arrived, that the SUV driver was lying on the ground.)
From that new footage, the NYPD today released FOUR pictures of new bikers that they say have to do with the beating. Including the two arrested already, (not including the brake checking guy,) that makes 6 people directly involved with the beating, so far.
As for the NYPD undercover detective. He didn't tell this superiors that he was even there till 3 days later. Then he lied about when he had shown up. IMO, at the time right before the beating, he
may have been trying to keep his cover, by beating on the window. The new video shows him hitting the car window once, kicking the car door once, then getting immediately on his bike and driving away, so he was not involved with the beating. (Nor did he do anything to stop it, like tell the guys, "Hey lets re-think this."
BUT, if he was trying to use the "not wanting to blow my cover," card, he STILL could have gone in to his superior the NEXT day and given an account of the incident and described the beaters in detail. Maybe given some names.
Since being arrested, his cover is now blown.
Police Comm, Ray Kelly was interviewed, he said a second NYPD cop was also at the event, off-duty, but videos show he played no part with the savages who beat the SUV driver. He really was too far back, or something like that. Kelly was mumbling that part.
Never a dull day in the Big Apple.
