Have you ordered magnets from anyone?

I usually just get a poster size photo printed, which I've made up using Elements of all my magnets. Then I cut them to size and stick magnets on them. I wanted to try something different this time. So I don't have a printer that is nice enough that I just want to home-print on magnetic paper, which I understand many people do.

I was thinking of using someone like Vistaprint and making a car magnet sized print, then cutting it to size. My concern is that it might be too thick to actually cut through unless I'm using some kind of industrial strength scissors or box cutters. Has anyone ever done this?

My other option is to use Staples or Blacks (Cdn printing company) to make magnetic backed posters. These could be a little thinner, but I'm told they're still thicker than, say those magnetic business cards. So that puts me back to gluing a magnet on the back of a printed project.

Anyone have any other ideas? Or have you used those commercial magnets and cut them to size?

We print out our letter sized colour pictures at Staples or our local library. We then stick them to “peel and stick” magnet sheets, cover them with transparent “peel and stick” shelf liner for extra sturdiness (both from Dollarama or Dollar Tree), and then cut them out. No glue is involved and we just use normal scissors to cut them out.

That's pretty much what I've done other years. I thought I'd might try higher tech this year, but I don't want to be stuck with something I can't cut, either.

We print at a local print shop, cut them out, laminate them, then add the magnets to the back.

I ordered the car magnet from Vistaprint and cut out my designs. It was perfect I would definitely do it again. The magnets cut really nicely with scissors. I have a blog and wrote about it here. There are a bunch of pictures.

Thanks. I read your blog. Very thorough. Good tip to look for a discount coupon. I hadn't thought of that.

If you sign up for their email they send discount codes. The Honey browser extension works well for coupon codes too.

I had never heard of the Honey browser extension. That sounds handy for just about anything.

We've used Plumeria Prints on Amazon for our magnets and been very happy with the results.

Your post just reminded me I wanted to get new magnets for our next cruise. We leave in 3 days. Guess I'll stick with our old ones and get new ones for 2021, unless I forget again.

It works well for stores in the USA, but I was buying something from the Bay and saved an extra $20 and at Chapters an extra $8. I didn't know about it either until my 14 year old daughter put it on my browser lol!

We print using our inkjet printer on normal photo paper. So however many are needed, on whatever size photo paper is needed; we just print them one item at a time.

Then use business card magnets from Staples on the back. Most only need one, and we can wait until we are on the ship to put them on, which makes packing easier as well as letting guage is a second one is actually needed [very rarely].

These are the magnets we use: https://www.staples.ca/products/26721-en-staples-business-card-magnets-100-pack

I've used those, too, but sometimes they weren't strong enough. Like you said, I brought extra.
