I've gone through hurricanes & earthquakes. Having said that, I actually prefer the hurricanes---I'd rather be given the chance to prepare for something rather than have it sprung on you. Although I do hate how the media blows everything out of proportion the minute anything is spotted out in the ocean, which causes everyone to panic.

I've been through tornadoes in Ohio the worse was 1974(?) when there was an outbreak and lots of people were killed. That was scary b/c the sirens went off all night and we didn't have a basement so we stayed up keeping watch. Been through 2 major blizzards-I hate the snow and cold. Then we went through our first hurricaine (Rita) back in Sept. It was an adventure. The worse part was-we were at WDW and had to cut short the trip to make it back in time to be with our kids. The really scary part wasn't the storm but the people who were in a panic. It took us 90 minutes to make a 15 minute trip home from the airport-the traffic jam and no gas or water-it was ridiculous. Thankfully I'm a planner and had all the supplies and full tanks of gas before we had left on our trip. Already getting ready for this season-looks like it could be bad. The disaster I wouldn't want to experience are earthquakes and wildfires to all you in the west for having that

IN 1992, there were two pretty good earthquakes in the CA high desert when I was there. My late husband was stationed at 29 Palms.

I went through a couple of moderate typhoons when I was stationed in Okinawa, and I was in the Quad Cities when the Mississippi had its big flood in 93.

Hurricanes Frances and Jeanne. Heck Charley and Wilma were still pretty strong when they went through here as well.

I have been through two major quakes....

Whittier Narrows in '87 and Northridge in '94.

I used to live in Norwalk, but the Northridge quake was a lot harder than Whittier despite being so much closer to the epicenter.
