For those of you who have been on DCL in the past two month have you noticed a decline in services or food. My aunt just told me that her friend who sails very often on Carnival just returned and she noticed that the food was scaled back so much that there was not much on the buffet and it was not replenished when the food was gone.

Have you noticed it on Disney? At Pluto's, Castaway Reception, Topsiders, Fresh Fruit, Wraps(I forget what that place is called). We'll be sailing in Jan 09 and it's our 4th cruise but my Aunt's 1st Disney Cruise so I don't want to disappoint her.

Well, that was not the case on the PC EB repo and that was just a few months ago. There are always people who don't like the food...different tastes is all. We happen to always enjoy it. However, if what your aunt's friend told her is true...it would have been reported here many times.

I think she was on a Carnival cruise...

There was food available all the time on DCL when I went in May...

I think you would have heard that a lot here too...

That is what I figured but I just wanted to throw it out there. I did inform my aunt that I am on Disboards everyday and nobody has mentioned it about Disney Cruise Line. Whew, thank goodness I would never hear the end of it is it were not as good as my kids have advertised!!!!

I was on the Magic at the end of May and am happy to report the food was wonderful! The buffets were always nice and full, the sit down meals were so tasty, and the service was worthy of extra tips! Disney aims to please and hits the mark! ;)

No issues with service or food. It was the best and then some.:thumbsup2

& Carnival doesn't have Mickey Bars either... :mickeybar

do the platters at the Palo brunch get well replenished as well? i recently saw some photos of it and it looked pretty pick apart :confused3

TIA:flower3:

I was just on the Magic on October, and the food and service was wonderful!! There was plenty of food, and they did indeed replenish the platters at the Palo brunch!! I was very impressed with Palo's food and service for brunch!!

thanks RanCan! :cool1: happy to hear i'll be able to go back for seconds!

I was on the same cruise as RanCan and I found the food to be better than the cruise we had before this one. Everyone in our group of 16 was very happy with the food and service. I did not find anything lacking. The new area for wraps/salads was very good...a nice alternative to the burgers and hotdogs.

We sailed in August and I thought the food was much better than it had been in January of '07. Never had any issues with empty buffet platters, either. :thumbsup2 The service was top-notch for both cruises!

There's no way you can compare Carnival and DCL. In fact, I asked my teen if she wanted to add a cruise on another line (got an e-mail about a good deal from TA.) Her response was that if it was Carnival, forget it. If it was another line, she'd consider it but "remember that we really won't enjoy it because Disney is so much better."

That said, we have certainly not noticed any decline in service or quality on DCL. In general, it keeps getting better. There are small changes we don't like (the Castaway reception went from wonderful food to a few snacks), but they have reasons (Way more people involved!).

I was just wondering if it were a trend through out the industry with the economy the way it is.

& 3rds.. and 4ths... and don't forget everything that they will bring you to try out!!!

I think it may be Carnival... they run on a lot lower overhead than the higher end cruise lines like DCL... And they depend more on people gambling and drinking to make money...

We cruised on the Carnival Valor this past March so 8 months ago but there was always plenty of food in the buffets...in fact, I real enjoyed their buffet food, more so than any other cruiseline (we've cruised NCL, DCL and RCI).

We were on the same cruise as mmouse37 and RanCan. The only thing I would add is that Topsiders does close for cleaning etc. While they are open the trays are always replemished. I had 2 issues with the food. DCL in my opinion should replace the bland tasteless bacon with something better and find a replacement for the Maxwell House coffee. Calling Maxwell House coffee is like calling the Ford Pinto a luxury car.

Plenty of excellent food 2 weeks ago on the Magic.:cool1:

In a recent Galley Tour Goran, the chef from Palo, said that the Magic has one person whose full time job is just to cook bacon for the whole ship. Maybe you could seek out the bacon chef next time and give him some pointers.

I don't know about your family but mine hearts the bacon on DCL, our breakfast staples are bacon, bacon, bacon, hash browns, eggs or omelets, fruit and yogurt. Maybe a mickey waffle or bagel but always lots of bacon, especially the super crispy but not burnt ones. YUMM-O!!
