Have you had 'the talk' with your parents?

I know my parents have plots. I'm not sure about the rest. They're in their late 50s right now. Dad is semi-retired and looking for a new job.

When Chris finishes law school and passes the Bar, he'll probably offer to help them update their will and set up everything else.

It has always been an open topic in our family. Maybe a little white lie can get the ball rolling. "A friend is going through a hard time after her parents death, she realizes their were a lot of questions left. I don't believe you want us to be more stressed out during our grief so...."

My parents are 45 and 46. I know who gets what land, house, possessions, where to be buried and how to do it. Since my parents are divorced, my brother and I decided who gets which parent if they ever need to move in with us. I know my parents don't want assistance care, but they know I plan on traveling the world for a long time and there is a possibility I can't take them in.

Dad says take him to the Howard Johnson for the weekly rate. He will have a maid, private room, fresh towels and toiletries, HBO and coffee maker. Plus his neighbors are always changing. There is a pool, sauna and video rentals at the front desk. The big perk, a Denny's is always nearby. We figured it up hypothetically, and it came out cheaper.

.... But we have a small house and have a DD6 and a DS4 and I just can't feasibly have them living here! And I don't believe my older brother and sister (whose kids are grown and out of the house) have volunteered. Besides, I still remember having my grandmother live with us when I was 8 or 9 and she was VERY ill, cancer, arthritis, diabetes and one day she had a stroke and I was home alone with her!! It terrified me and I still remember it to this day and I don't want that for my kids. Maybe I am selfish and mean, but I know I cannot handle having my parents live with us.

Get THAT thought right out of your head....you aren't being selfish and/or mean just because you couldn't handle your parents living with you! I could handle my mother living with us but my MIL, no way in heck!!! There's nothing selfish or mean about knowing your own limits.
