Have you gotten a COVID vaccine?

You said earlier you have an 86 year old brother? And you are not at least 65?

also, you can help the neighbor schedule at the pharmacies since the government “line” is moving slowly. It is moving super slow here so I am helping ppl sign up since I’m OK getting up a little after midnight and able to go back to sleep
Later.
I'm 63. LOL. Wouldn't really be worth going back to bed since I have to be up at 2 am to be at work at 3am.

Full Disclosure. My daughter-in-law works for Kaiser. So I have an "In" there, except there is no vaccine in Kaiser's Northern California region. Her parents got their vaccine no problem in Kaiser of Southern California, which has plenty of vaccine.
That is incorrect. I live in Kaiser's Northern California Region. My friend is in charge of vaccine distribution for Kaiser up here. And I can tell you that my county and the ones surrounding it are making vaccine appts for those in the list I posted the other day. They released a ton of appointments on Friday. As is evident by my mom, my husband, my best friend and myself all getting one.

I'm only trying to help. You DO qualify through Kaiser. It's not cutting any line. Theirs are outside of the state and even county guidelines. You only have to match their eligibility. But you do you.

Not exactly. I'm in Kaiser in SoCal. Their vaccination criteria is lagging behind the state's. They only recently expanded their eligibility :
  • People age 65+
  • Teachers K-12, Daycare and preschool workers, and staff
  • Health care workers, EMS, food and agriculture workers, emergency services, public transit, airport, commercial airline workers
  • Long-term care or any congregate care living residents and staff
  • People age 16+ with a high risk medical condition that increases risk of severe illness from COVID-19

Seems to me that diabetes would qualify you, am I wrong?

After haunting the Kaiser website for weeks, we finally used the state website and got appointments for the next day.

For some, there is a certain fear of the shot.

I became eligible in my state in January, but didn't get a shot until March 10. I did sign up with the county and state system.

But lots of people were reporting getting shots at grocery stores and pharmacies. I was letting it slide. My son (a hospital worker) got on me. I had an appt and a shot in a couple of days and I was so relieved to get it done as I had a lot of covid fear, some vaccine fear, but mostly needle fear.

TV Guy may have some reservations he's not sharing.

But, I think he's going to get the vaccine when he's ready.

And, my son in law is waiting on the results of a covid test from this morning. He was sick since Thursday with fever and chills. Hopefully it's just regular sick, but, we worry in the mean time. He's middle aged (40) and healthy/fit with no risk factors.

Diabetes WITH an A1C of over 7.5 does qualify. My A1C isn't that high.

I checked with my DIL. It changed today. I am not eligible and they have a shortage of vaccine.

Sounds like you have someone to assist you in knowing when you are eligible.
There is a pretty wide variety of eligibility rules from state to state and county to county. It's not simple to navigate, especially when rules change frequently. I hope they look at this in the after action reports. It didn't help.

The vaccines do not provide 100% protection. Although the vaccines are incredibly effective (and were nothing short of amazing in terms of turnaround), they only offer 94% to 95% protection. There’s no way to tell who the 5% will be who don’t respond to the vaccine and will still be at risk for COVID-19.

Those who have been vaccinated might be asymptomatic spreaders. The vaccines prevent illness, but more research is needed to determine if the vaccines also prevent transmission. Experts are concerned that vaccinated people can still become infected without symptoms and then spread it to others who have not been vaccinated yet. Since the pandemic unfolded nearly a year ago, experts have worried about silent spreaders, aka those who are infected but don’t show symptoms. If vaccinated people don’t continue to wear a face mask until more people are considered fully vaccinated, they could cause the virus to keep circulating. Getting vaccinated means you’re much less likely to get sick and develop symptoms yourself, so it’s critical that we protect others while they wait for their turn to receive the vaccine.

I understand that is what the main page says. But they are not following the state list of underlying conditions. They have their own. This is on the e-visit form right now. Diabetes type 1 & 2 qualify, with no A1C restrictions.

If you don’t want to get it, that’s your right. And it may very well be true your area doesn’t have enough vaccine currently, but that is not true for entire Northern California region. I know that the Marin County Kaisers get a different allotment than Sonoma County which gets different than Solano. However Kaiser is allowing you to book an appt in any county they serve (DH and I are booked in different counties, neither of which we live in. Kaiser knows that and suggested looking beyond our own county).

I don't qualify. From the CVS website:

Yes you do, if you have Type 2 Diabetes

I understand this. I will be honest that I’ve read it as frustration he isn’t eligible, not that he doesn’t want it. But you’re right, it’s absolutely his choice.

But I do want to clarify, my responding is not an effort to push him into getting it. It’s that other people are on this thread or may be reading it who ARE trying to get it and blanket statements about the state of CA or even the entire Northern California region (Kaiser) that are incorrect are dangerous to other people. It may discourage them from even trying, when they very well may qualify.

I won’t pretend I know what’s happening in tvguy’s county because I don’t. I do know however that his blanket statements are false.

Was able to get my first shot (pfizer) through a FEMA drive thru clinic in NC (part of high risk group 4). It was extremely smooth process. No side effects beyond a slightly sore arm

Before arriving I was very nervous about how to secure a follow up dose since they only allowed appointments for a first dose. I shouldn’t have worried. They had a return date given to me once I arrived (same day of week, same time, could call if there was a conflict). It was a very easy process.

I signed up through my counties website for text message when my group was eligible. Received a text and signed up. Really impressed with how well it worked.

Kaiser in Sacramento is vaccinating people with type 1 or 2 diabetes or large bmi count (don't know the correct term). My cousin got her vaccination last week at S. Sac and my friend got hers at Roseville. You can go to your Kaiser page/log in and go to the covid area, it tells you if you qualify. Mine says thank you for being vaccinated. It appears Kaiser has suddenly got a large shipment because just a few weeks ago, they were having a hard time keeping up with the 70 year olds. If you have Kaiser but get your vaccination somewhere else like Rite Aid, don't forget to let Kaiser know. My sister forgot to tell them and they kept calling her to let her know she was eligible.
