Have you ever been at a resort and decided it is not the one for you, and ask to change to a different resort? If you are on a free dinning deal and that is no longer available do you get to keep it or will you have to pay for your food if you change?

Just Curious :confused3

Yes we did!

It wasn't during free dining. In fact I don't think free dining had even come out yet!

It was way back in 2004. In 2003 we did our first Disney trip with our youngest three. We stayed at the GF and loved it. So much for the "trip of a lifetime".

We decided to go back in 2004 and make it more budget friendly. We had already planned a big 2005 trip staying at the GF in a TPV room.

We booked POR since they were the only mod that could sleep five. We stayed at the Hard Rock for three nights before so we were able to check in really early - around 7 am and then our plan was to head over to MK.

Check in was fine - in fact the room was ready. Bell service took our luggage over and let us into the room. It seemed so small to us after the GF but I was determined to make it work.

We dropped off our luggage and got on a bus for MK. As we were getting off the bus the boat from the GF/Poly was just docking. Now mind you at the time we had both a double and a single stroller on the bus. DH took one look at the boat and said I'm going over to the GF to see if we can change rooms and if they don't have availability I'll try the Poly and the CR. I was shocked since it was DH who kept saying this had to be a budget trip!

We all went into MK and after about an hour DH took our youngest and set out on getting our resort changed. We didn't tell the kids because we didn't want them disappointed. About an hour later he was back with room keys to our new room at the GF. They were really good and we were still able to keep our AP discount. Of course we paid the difference between the AP rate at POR and the AP rate at the GF.

The cms were so helpful. DH went over to POR and the cms at POR brought DH and all our luggage back on a golf cart!

So if you find out the resort you book isn't the right fit for you Disney will let you change as long as their availability.

We have never done it, but I have read several reports of others changing resorts once they get there :). We are booked for our first stay at the CR in December and although it has never appealed to us, we decided to give it a try as we love being on the monorail and have stayed at the Poly and GF. With that said, if we really aren't happy once we check in, I will be inquiring about changing resorts. Disney wants happy guests so they will do whatever they can to accommodate you if you are unhappy. As far as keeping your discount if you have one, that would probably depend on the discount you have as well as what is still available under that promo ;).

When All Star Sports first opened I had booked a weekend there. When I first drove in I was stunned at how ugly it was. I wasn't expecting it to be as "Disney on steroids" as it was. I immediately drove over to CSR to try to get a room there. Nothing was available. The CM checked the other mods and not 1 room was to be had. I didn't want to pay for a Deluxe, this was supposed to be a cheap weekend for the two of us. So I went back to ASSp and just put up with it. ASSp looks tame now compared to AoA and Pop. Back in the day Disney theming wasn't giant cartoon icons and loud colors in your face 24/7.

I'm confused by this sentence. It looks like you're saying they drove your husband from POR to GF on a golf cart. That can't be right, right?:confused3

She probably meant that POR staff brought the luggage on the cart with the husband to the car. I can't imagine the golf cart being driven on the road. It doesn't go that fast and it's not safe.

It was - believe me I was shocked! The cm told dh he had never been to the GF before and wanted to see it. Dh said they took all back roads.

No we didn't have a car. Pre ME days. We had used Tiffany Town Car to get over to POR.

I know the back way from POR. Go out of POR and turn right instead of left like the signs tell you. But that's still a long way for a golf cart. I'm not doubting you, it just seems crazy that they would do that. :rotfl:

I didn't know there was a back road that would take you all the way to GF. That's good that everything worked out for you.

I have changed resort during our stay at CBR. We had a cockroach problem and our floor was wet.. no, not damped, it was wet. I should have asked to be moved to another room, instead they gave me a floor blower. But at the end of the day, we decided to move to CSR. And I made the right move! The room was perfectly clean! They moved the luggage for us and we took the bus to the park, and from the park, we took the bus to CSR. :)

My DD and I did this in March over Spring Break. I figured since it was just she and I, that we could stay at a value and be perfectly fine. Previously we had only stayed at CBR, but I booked AsMu for us with a room discount pin. We got there and it was so crowded and crazy. Kids running and screaming everywhere, crowded busses, dirty food court. Ugh. After a couple housekeeping problems, I'd had enough. The 3rd day I went to the front desk and begged to be changed to a mod. The CM got us the last room available at POFQ. I didn't get a discount on the room, but paying the upcharge, even at full price was worth it. The rest of our vacation was serene and smooth. :thumbsup2
