Have you ever witnessed this while eating out.

Server here. Customer making their own lemonade would never bother me. Ask me for extra lemons and I am happy to bring them to you. Now pocketing all the sugars for your vacation home or leaving dirty tissues on the table, those two thing make me CRAZY!:confused3

Ack, the dirty tissues left on the table, that is so disgusting. I even had a woman one time who wanted to hand me her dirty tissue to throw away for her. :scared1: If I have to use a tissue when I'm in a restaurant, I put it in my purse to dispose of later myself. I would never ask a server to throw it away for me, and I wouldn't leave it on the table/plate either. That is just so gross.

Good grief, the things people get upset over. :sad2:

I knew someone would have to say that. :sad2:

I know right? I can't believe this thread is still going.:rotfl2: I order water with lemon all the time, but my three kids and DH don't, so we pay plenty for drinks. My kids normally don't even ask for refills. Plus, I only do it because I like it. ;)

One of my first jobs was working at family friend's diner when I was a teenager. He told us that if customers ordered water to ask them they wanted lemon wedges. The reason he had us do that was because at the time iced tea wasn't big seller at the diner and he wanted to get rid of lemons easier. Several people each day would say yes to lemons with water.

I have never seen anyone do what the OP described in a restaurant. I do think it is bit tacky but stuff like that likely goes unnoticed most of the time.

Sure did, (and I wasn't the first ;) ) and I totally stand behind it, too. I wish that's all I had to worry about! Like many have pointed out on this thread there are many reasons for using lemons in their water. It doesn't necessarily mean someone is cheap or going to be poor tipper. You (collective you) are judging with a pretty broad brush there and that says a whole lot more about you (again, collective you) than the person who likes lemon in their water! They even sell lemon water at the store because some people prefer it to lemonade. :faint:

WOW I order water with lemon and put 1 packet of Sweet and Low in it...flushes out the system, get over it people!:thumbsup2

Wait. So we should all order beverages to drink when all we want is water because it makes us look cheap if we don't??

I'm dumbfounded.

Does that mean I'm cheap when I go to a bar with my friends and order a Coke?? Does this apply to other areas of life as well, or is it reserved just for food and drinks? I mean, if I want to buy a pair of earrings should I actually the pair that I think are ugly but costs twice as much because if I don't it looks cheap?

Or do I have to buy a Lexus next time I go car shopping even though I just want a Chevy?

Just trying to figure out the rules here. Would hate to look cheap. *eyeroll*

109 posts (well 110 - including mine) all over a lemon.............

Only on the DIS...:lmao:

Have to admit it's fun reading though.. Things are just getting too heavy around here lately..

I've been meaning to ask - is the sugar with the lemon a problem too - or just the lemon? I'm a little confused on that part..:)

I've been known to order water with lemon wedges. Is this wrong?
I order this too a lot.

Since the beginning of 2010, I have tried cutting back on carbonated drinks so I usually order water with lemon when we go out. I always drink diet beverages, so it isn't a calorie thing, I just want to get away from carbonated beverages.

I get water with lemon (I don't add sugar though), its a health thing, I rarely drink soda. DH gets tea, DD gets Spirte and DS gets milk or water (that is all he will drink). I never saw it as a cheap thing, I just want water, that's what I drink at home most of the time too. I will get tea, if we are eating lunch, but I can't drink it too late or I can't sleep well.

Part of me feels bad for taking a lemon wedge(s) each time I am at a restaurant. I buy lemons for home every week and they cost 79 cents each. I really would be willing to pay for the lemon wedges. I'm sure the restaurant goes through quite a bit each day!

I was very upset with my DH a few weeks ago. We were driving from WDW to Bonita Springs, Florida. We both wanted something to drink so went through the Burger King drive thru.

He ordered a milkshake. I told him I really just wanted a cold ice water because a carbonated beverage doesn't quench my thirst. He would not order me a water, saying that was rude & embarrassing.

He should have just ordered the darn water because he had to listen to me for the next 2 hours complain how we wasted money on a drink where most of it would end up in the garbage & I was still thirsty!!!

Seriously.......he ordered a milkshake. I saw nothing wrong with asking for a cup of water!

Have any of you read the reports about lemons in restaurants? And what's on them? If not, try Googling "lemons in restaurants" and start reading the stories.

Saw it on the news a few weeks ago. I try not to think about it or I order the water without the lemon, depending on where I am.

Considering they are ordering in large quantities it's not likely they are paying anything near what we pay in the supermarket, so I wouldn't feel too bad about it..:)

And seriously - if they didn't want people doing what they're doing, they would put a stop to it in a heart beat..;)

I've been drinking iced tea or water with lemon for years and years, it hasn't made me sick yet so I'll keep drinking it. :) Yes I've seen the reports. :)

I'm sure they're no dirtier than the waiter's finger that went in my drink. :rotfl:

Great..:headache: Now all these poor renegade lemonade makers are going to get in even deeper trouble because they will read these "lemon reports", start taking an extra napkin to dip in their water to pre-clean their lemon and/or slices, and all heck is going to break lose.. Great - just great..:headache:
