DH and I are both 46, and we've taken several vacations with my parents who are now 66 and 72. Our most recent was a 4-night Disney Wonder cruise with 3-nights of local sightseeing this past January. And now we have cabins rented side-by-side next month for 2 weeks. We always have a good time with them. We always have separate rooms if we stay in a hotel, had separate staterooms on the cruise, etc. but still enjoy being together the rest of the time. So, I was just wondering about the rest of you. Have you ever, or would you consider, going on vacation with your parents?

Yes, DH and I just got back from a 12 day trip to Ireland with my parents. 3 years ago we did a week in Disney with his parents! I find that not TOO much togetherness is the key- some alone time for each couple, even for a few hours a day, helps keep conflicts to a minimum.

Yes, we've taken vacations with my entire immediate family. We just got back from Las Vegas where we celebrated my mom's 75th b'day.

Our party consisted of DH, DD and me; DB #1; DB #2; DB #3, SIL, and their 2 boys; and of course DM (could celebrate w/o her - well we could but people would probably talk ;) ).

About 5 yrs ago we all rents a big house on Cape Cod for the week.

Since we're scattered all over the country/world we don't get to see each other very often. These vacations give us a chance to catch up and have fun. It's also great for the cousins to play together.

I hope we do it again before mom's 80th.

We went to Vegas a couple of months ago with my Husbands folks . We had seperate rooms but we soent all the other time together it was fine.
We are now going to Disney in a couple of months and I am worried. We are staying in the same room as them at the WL( rooms are not big at all there)
It was the only way they would go . We are staying Concierge and they didnt want to pay for a roomthat expensive . This is thier first adults only trip Disney . I hope someone has stayed with 4 adults in the Wl and can tell me how crowded it will be

We've gone on several vacations with my parents and my in-laws. We have such a great time with them.
We've camped, gone on the Disney Cruise, gone to Niagara Falls with my parents and the in-laws, Disney world and shorter weekend trips. We always have a blast with them. :)

As a kid - Sure.

As an adult - Just once.

Yes, all the time! I love taking my mom places she's never been and showing her things she's never seen. I love, love, love taking her to WDW! She has such an innocent, loving way about her every day, but especially when she's in WDW, the child within her heart comes out and it's just absolutely beautiful to see and be around. :cloud9: She is scared to death of water, but she WANTS to float around the lazy river at Typhoon Lagoon next time we go down (as long as I hold onto her tube of course)! I can't wait! I hope to get her to WDW some time near this Christmas. Christmas time in WDW is something she really wants to do.

I would love to go with my entire family to WDW, but I don't think it would work out. Our families are way too different and we would be having a tug-of-war over my mom! :p

Will and I are planning on taking both our moms and his dad to Las Vegas for a long weekend to see Celine Dion! That will be a really fun trip! I can just see how HUGE my mother's eyes and heart will be the entire weekend. :p

Edited to be a little nicer. :o :p

We take at least one vacation a year with my husband's parents. We have a great time together but also understand that sometimes it's good to have a little time apart when we're on a trip.

We stayed concierge at WL last May with 2 adults and 1 child and it was a little cramped. WL rooms are just not that big but it's a beautiful resort. Since you're paying extra for concierge have you thought about just going with 2 regular rooms? You might be able to use a code so 2 regular rooms might not be much more than 1 concierge one. You could always see about an upgrade when you check in. That's what we did and it was $45 extra per night. Concierge is nice but I don't think it's special enough to share a room with my inlaws  .

We've never shared a room with anyone. That's just too close for comfort IMHO.

We have a camp that we go to every year with my parents, we've also vacationed with in-laws. I think just having enough space and not spending 100% of your time together is the key. It is a great way to spend time and I'm glad that my girls have those memories of their grandfather that passed away this year.

When my mom was alive we took a number of trips with her and had a great time. Since she's been gone we have taken a few trips with my in-laws (3 cruises and one stay at DVC with us). THey just don't get Disney so we've found it easier to travel without them. We have sent them to Vero by themsleves twice which they enjoyed.

As an adult, only once. And only once it will be. My dad and my sister and her family drove me nuts and almost totally ruined my vacation.

We have gone to WDW, and then done the land/sea package with them too. On those trips its been all of us, and my sisters family too.
A few times(including next week), just my mother has come to WDW with us.
In August the whole family is going on a cruise to Bermuda, thanks to Mom & Dad! :Pinkbounc

My dad died at 55 when I was 20 so I never had the chance to with him but I always take my mom on vacation with me and my daughter. She is 74 now and has done more trips and been to more places with me and with me and my daughter than seh did the whole time she was married to my dad. I couldn't imagine going away and leaving her home on long trips...I have done it on long weekend to A/C and amusement parks but for 5 day or longer trips I always take her. I took her on the Disney cruise in 2002 and we are taking her again in 2005.

Yup! I go with my parents a lot - especially since DH can't go a lot of the time. We've also done a cruise with my aunt, uncle and grandparents. (So my dad took his brother and parents.) And for the next big Disney trip, I've already invited my parents and ILs.

Yep. My parents go to the Outer Banks every July & we usually go with them - it's a free vacation!

We're skipping it this year though, since we're going to WDW :)

My mom (71) and dad (73) have a 40 foot motorhome, and so DH, DS6, DS4 and I have met them at Myrtle Beach a couple of times to stay with them. They are retired, and love having their grandsons in the motorhome with them. Hey, we all get to be together, it's free for us (Mom and Dad won't hear of sharing the cost!!), they don't have anything else to do...And my mom cooks for us AND watches the boys so DH and I can go to a movie...(This sounds really bad now that I see it in writing, but really everyone has fun, and we all pitch in..)

In February this year, while they were wintering in Zephyrhills, we agreed to meet at FWCampground, and all stay for a few days.. We rented a scooter for my dad, who doesn't walk very well, and we all went to the Magic Kingdom for the day..Very relaxed, my mom and dad hadn't been to WDW since Epcot first opened, so you can imagine the shock they had of the immesity of it all. Anyway, they loved seeing their grandsons have fun on all the rides, they went on some, and we just didn't push any thing. It was a great memory.. Later that night, my mom watched the boys while DH and I went to Emeril's Tschoup chop...(sp) And grandma took the boys around the campground.:teeth:

Yes, over the yrs we have been invited on several vacations with our grown children and grands. We always have a wonderful time being together making special memories. We've vacationed with them in Myrtle Bch, Ocean City, annual summer trips to Deep Creek Lake sharing a cabin, a family reunion Disney cruise and once all our gang flew to Washington State to vacation. We are now hoping for a family trip to WDW after grand #11 arrives.

When my dear Dad was here we enjoyed doing many roads trips. After Dad passed, as a pick me up for my Mom's 74th birthday, my sis and I took her on her first cruise and plane trip. We had an absolutely fabulous time together and she really enjoyed being treated like a queen. Also got her in a bathing suit and played in the Caribbean for the first time in many moons. I know we will always treasure the special times we've made.

God Bless ^i^
 Sandie

My Mom passed away last month:sad1: , but DH and I used to go away with she and my Dad. Never big long trips, but we'd go to Lancaster, PA for the weekend-once my Mom came to MA with DH and I for a quick weekend..and my Mom and I went to WDW together(just she and I) in Dec. 2002. Always had a great time-especially with my Mom(I was much closer to her than Dad) and especially after the kids came along-always nice to have a doting grandma along!
:teeth:

My mom is diabetic now, and it scares her to go too far away alone. If she asks me to go somewhere, or meet her somewhere I will. I've driven to Dulles airport to meet her, even though I'm no where near there. I flew with her to Florida because my stepdad couldn't go.:sunny:
