We've been to WDW 5 times, have always planned at least a year ahead. Now we are considering going on a whim. Has anyone out there ever done this? Some of our best times have been done at last minute notice, but always local events. This is my plan: losing a little (includes whole family) weight, saving my cash, getting on the phone and going. Sound ludicrous? Or adventurous? We're a family of five and considered all adults. :bounce: :bounce:

are you kidding? LOL those are the BEST trips!

One day about two years ago on a Saturday, my dad calls me up and invites me over for coffee. He says to me, "I want to take my granddaughter to WDW." I said, "okay, I can plan that, when?" and he said "How does Tuesday work for you?"

LOL

my DH was going through a VERY long lay-off at the time and there was no way we could afford it. I told him that I'd be happy to plan a trip for him to go with one of my sisters if he wanted. But Dad handed me his AmEx and the phone and said "Just get us there."

He had been through a massive stroke earlier in that year and DH and I had cared for him after he got out of the hospital, he was with us for six weeks. After all that, he decided it was time to celebrate!!!

I managed to get an AWESOME last minute airfare that trip (it was like 170 a person round trip, but we had to take a really early flight back which stunk, never again LOL) but with the way airlines are having trouble booking now and stuff, there are deals to be had! it can be done.

It amazes me how people plan trips a year in advance, that would drive me crazy! the waiting is hard enough 2 months in advance LOL.

So, the end of the story is: that we did indeed fly out that Tuesday morning: we had to stay at more than one resort (they had conventions in at the deluxes and so we had to switch from the CR to the WL for the last night) but we had a BLAST. Everything went like clockwork and it is one of the most special trips i can remember.

My family clocked me; and I had rooms, flights, ground trans and PS reservation and passes reserved and all locked in, in less than 45 minutes. And that was working on the phones with no computer access at the time! online I could do it even faster LOL.

Sometimes the best things are the spontaneous ones. I say, go for it :)

Our very first trip to WDW was actually on a whim. My daughter was about 2 1/2 and my husband called me at work one day and said, "Why don't we go to Disney World!" I was like, OKAY! So I called and we planned our trip to leave in two weeks. It was great! It was the first time we'd stayed on property and we stayed at the CBR. We discovered that staying on property was definitely the way to go. That trip really got us addicted to WDW and I've been a fanatic ever since!

and we are only planning three months ahead... in the past it was only a month or less... so, yes, a last minute trip is a great idea!

We usually always plan far in advance (look at my countdown), but just 2 days ago my DH asked me what I wanted for my birthday (in 2 weeks) and I jokingly said "a trip to DisneyWorld!" knowing that we're not going until Dec. and getting AP's then. He said, "Okay!" and 2 hours later we had flights for me and DD13 using his Skymiles, and a room at PC using the room only discount for August. We have PHP with days left on them in our safe deposit box. So I'm going to DW for my birthday! YAY!

Gor for it!!!::yes:: We did this last year. It was late January and we were anxious to escape the hum-drum winter. So we said, "Let's go to WDW!!" We went the first week of March. So it was about 1 month of planning. We had a BLAST!! And we did this with two little ones-they were almost 3.5 and 17 months on our trip. We were SO glad we went for it. :):):)

Any time you have an opprtunity to go to WDW I say GO FOR IT!!! Have a magical trip.

Cant help you in the airfare department.

But with luck last minute trip to wdw are not that bad .

Go a good rate a CR seems that not always the resorts are packed.

Ps take whatever time they give you for your restaurant and arrive early. I mean early dinner 5:30p it your lucky you won't have to wait long.

I did this this weekend totally smooth.

Enjoy !! trips at short notice are the best .

cuz the anticipation kills me.

I wish I could do this.....it sounds like so much fun!

But I have to save to take a vacation. So a spur of the moment vacation would have to be close by, not Disney.

We actually did this a couple years ago! I was on maternity leave, our new DD went in for her 2 week checkup. I was really sad the my parents hadn't seen her yet (we're in Texas - they're in Arizona). I asked the doctor "just in case" about traveling with her. She said as long as we watch what she is exposed to (touches, puts in her mouth, etc.) that we can do whatever. I sent a couple emails, begged DH and did up a trip plan with a budget. He said okay and we went and met my parents along with an Aunt and Uncle for 5 days. It was WONDERFUL! We even got to sneak away for a couple hours for dinner at Narcoosees. The entire trip was planned for and started in less than a week!

My husband and I just planned a trip for next month. We are already going to Massachusetts and since airfare is cheap through Southwest, we decided to tack on a few extra days for WDW at the end then fly home from there!

I have to say that it has so far worked out perfectly. I got a deal on the room at POFQ.

I am going to not plan too much, so we can relax and go with the flow!

I would say if it can be done on short notice- DO IT! I doubt you will regret it, afterall you are making memories and what better place to do that than WDW!

Good luck!

Most of my trips are planned just a few weeks in advance. My only long-term trip planning is my annual birthday trip to WDW and that means 2 months!

For the 4th of July weekend, I called less than 10 days before to see what I could get and lucked out at a $69/night preferred view at Pop. So I did some grocery shopping a couple of days before leaving, packed and off we went.... and had an absolute blast! My DD6 loved it and so did we.

I got my ressies for Sept 2 weeks ago and this week decided to go to MNSSHP as well. I consider myself lucky that I can do this.

Any trip to Disney is a good trip! We did a short notice trip a number of years of ago. We usually went with my brother and his family every year. This one year my dh decided that we need a break. So, when a dear friend decided she wanted to do a girl's only weekend at Disney, she didn't have to ask me twice! Well, when I returned talking about all the fun we had and all the new things from just a year earlier, dh booked us to join my brother and his family the following month. :)

WE ACTUALLY PLANNED A TRIP IN LESS THAN A WEEK LAST YEAR. MY HUSBAND WHO IS ACTIVE MILITARY HAD JUST GOTTEN BACK IN JUNE FROM 3 1/2 MONTHS IN IRAQ AND WE HAD PLANNED A TENTATIVE TRIP IN AUGUST. AFTER ONLY BEING BACK ABOUT 3WEEKS HE REC'D ORDERS FOR AFGHANISTAN. WE HAD TO CHANGE OUR WHOLE TRIP AROUND AND LEFT 4 DAYS AFTER HE RECEIVED HIS NEW ORDERS. HOTEL,(CR-BW) ITINERARY, DOG'S KENNEL RESERVATIONS, EVERYTHING WAS CHANGED. WE HAD AN AWESOME TRIP!! SO FAR OUR 8/22 DEPARTURE TRIP FOR SOG HAS NOT BEEN EFFECTED BY ANY NEW DEPLOYEMENT ORDERS!::MinnieMo ::MickeyMo

We had a great last minute trip last year!

First of all, I had taken ds with some of my friends last September. Dh and I decided to skip our usual December trip because of this. (But dh still had a week of vacation in December) Well.... the Friday before his vacation started I was reading the Dis Boards early in the morning. I mentioned how it was too bad we weren't going in Dec. You know, the holiday atmosphere and all. Dh basically rolled his eyes and said no way. Then he called from his cell on his way to work and said if I could find affordable accomodations we should go! Sooooo, I booked us in to POR, bought our passes and MVMCP tickets online, packed us up and we were on our way to WDW that afternoon! It was one of our best trips yet. We had no plans or schedule to follow. It was a great very relaxing trip!:D

I have taken one spur of the moment trip, and it was a lot of fun. Our Annual Passes were about to expire, and off hand I mentioned that we should to down to WDW for a long weekend. Well, my husband liked the idea, and two weeks later we were off. :) We got an AP rate at All Star Music, and we had a blast touring the parks. I typically like to plan my Disney trips way in advance (for me planning is a huge part of the fun), but this was a really fun way to see the World too. :)
