Have you ever traveled without luggage?

As far as I know, that's only done when the overhead compartments are full - not as a service or courtesy for passengers who simply don't want to check luggage but also don't want to haul it onto the plane.

Really? On our first plane the desk guy gave me the impression I could do that with my bags because I had a medical bag.

That would suck if it was special case only! It made the plane load and unload so fast.

ok, i wanna know HOW you did this. I'm gong to Italy for 12 days and I want to go light...tips are greatly appreciated.

Read this. . .on the left are the links all about packing. We went to Europe for 8weeks with only carry-ons. I highly recommend it.

I always liked this quote. . .Whether you're traveling for three weeks or three months, pack exactly the same. Rather than take a whole trip's supply of toiletries, take enough to get started and look forward to running out of toothpaste in Bulgaria. Then you have the perfect excuse to go into a Bulgarian department store, shop around, and pick up something you think might be toothpaste....

I booked a trip to Memphis coming up. It is only an overnight trip (Friday-Saturday). I was thinking that our clothes/personal toiletries could just go in a backpack as a carry-on.
Can most things travel on a plane as a carry-on bag? Any restrictions? Anything that might get thrown out?

I think we would only be bringing a change of clothes, pajamas, shampoo/conditioner/body wash, toothpaste and toothbrush, camera, IPod, phone, medication for my mom's diabetes, etc.

Please let me know your thoughts! (If it worked, if if didn't and why, things you can't bring on the plane, etc.)

I assume they let you bring insulin on the plane, right? Even though it is a needle??
TIA!

My DH has traveled a lot without a suitcase. He travels with his backpack (and he is not a kid). On his last trip to Disney without me, without thinking he picked up the 2 shampoos from the hotel and threw them into his backpack. Didn't even realize that he had them until he got home -- nope security didn't say anything about them not being "in a baggie".

We spent a week in Disney World with only carry-ons last November. No problem.

DS and I spent a long weekend in Philadelphia last year and it was chilly there. We both wore our jackets onto the plane. We each had a carryon with another pair of jeans, slacks, a few light shirts, toiletries and a paperback each. I carried a purse since it didn't count and put papers, maps, travel info, money, cell phone and so on in it.

If you roll your clothing you can get quite a bit into a carryon and it won't be so prone to wrinkle. I rolled my jeans first and then slacks and then shirts and night shirt around them. I also packed a few flats in my bag on the ends.

I had more toiletries than DS so I split the items evenly between me and him. I also took perscription drugs that I put in another plastic bag.

You certainly can fit all you need in a backpack. Sometimes I need to throw my cloths in the dryer for a few minutes - or hang in the bathroom and let shower steam loosen the wrinkles.

We're flying to Disney in November, going down on bags fly free Southwest.
We're coming home on USAirways, bags are $ 23 each. So my DH said we should just wear old clothes in Disney, and then throw them out at the end of the trip!

I've done that too. It's a good way to get rid of those clothes that have little flaws in them. I had a nice dressy shirt that had a small spot on it, and it wouldn't come out. Other than that, it was a nice shirt.

I wore it one last time to WDW and tossed it. :hippie:

Dh always flies and only takes a carryon. Last year for Thanksgiving I drove to Chicago and took all his clothes so he flew up later with only his laptop bag. He said he felt a little weird, lite maybe with no luggage or maybe it was because I forgot my curling iron and made him bring it.
