I am not a DVC member but just wondered have any of you that are ever have or considered trading points for a weeks stay in a like-wised priced property like a gulf front condo in the summer? Is this allowed by the rules of DVC? Thanks for any imput on this you may have.

Hi:

As A DVC member you are also linked in with Interval International. YOu can exchange your DVC pts for vacation sites all over the world. The accommodations at these other resorts are similar or better quality as Disney accommodations. For instance I have 3 nights booked in London in June at the Dorchester. The Dorchester is one of the top hotels in London and was listed by Conde Nast to be tops in Europe. Room rates are 300-400 pounds a night. DVC members have exchanged out for Hawaii, Europe, Tokyo, Paris, Calif, Colorado, etc. The offer cruises, safaris, white water rafting. you name it they have an exchange.

Hope this helps answer somewhat of your question.

What do you have to offer? Looking at your name makes me think Gulf shores.
Send me an email.

Yes, please share what you have for an exhange. Personal trades actually work out alittle easier than waiting for an exchange/trade to come through!

I am also a DVC member, with a 2bed/2bath in Waikiki (available starting Aug. 2001 through all of 2002 any dates, even midweek) that I would be willing to *trade* for 175 DVC points.

This should be moved to the Rent/Trade board.

I'd like to clarify what Ed is saying. DVC members have access to a select portion of Interval International's inventory, some 10% or so. There are also a group of hotels/resorts that are world class and on a list called the Concierge collection. They are very expensive both with cash and in terms of points. To link II and CC is not ideal. While many of the exchange options though II are quite nice, few come up to the level of DVC. I'd say than only some 20-30 resorts on the exchange list are truly up to the level of DVC and about that many more are fairly close. Top Marriotts, top Royals, St. James Place, Four Seasons top a short list I can think of at present that I would consider potentially even trades through II. Of course it depends on what's important to you.

Assuming you're looking to trade a condo or timeshare from the Gulf Shores area or similar, be prepared to sweeten the pot a lot. Depending on what you're offering (size, resort and season) and what you desire at DVC, you will need to structure the deal to make it attractive. Just as my estimation of a value comparison, I'd put a summer, 2 BR nice unit at Gulf Shores about comparable to a studio for 7 days (not Xmas, Easter) or a 1 BR for 5 days (S-F) at DVC. Of course there are various ways to change this scenario around including additional payments, more than one week, various length of stays for DVC, etc.

DLVisitor, do you have Hilton HI village. I don't think I have any points that I can muster for now but might be interested for the future for the Hilton. I can't think of another Waikiki resort I would consider at present.

Dean,

I agree with what you saying about the trade up into DVC. I traded a Boardwalk preferred view five weeknight stay for a two bedroom at the Marriott on Hilton Head during July.

The Boardwalk room is check in today and should just about have a boardwalk view garanteed because the ressie was made on March 23, 2000.

I am not at this time looking for a trade but was wanting some idea if a trade was possible at all and if it was commonplace. In answer to some of the questions posed, I am in the process of buying a condo (direct gulf front in perdido Key Florida). I am renovating it so it will be a while before I would want to make a trade. Thanks again for all the info. I may in the future be buying a DVC membership but due to this condo, not for a while.Buy the way, due to a stay at WL in '99, I recieved 2 weeks ago a letter in the mail from DVC about the VWL, it said I would be mailed more info in the next week, to look for it. So far, no info. I hope to recieve it anyway. Thanks again for the great information!

Dear Dean:
I do not own at Hilton HI Village. Walked by it when we were there, didn't know it was converting some of its rooms to t/s. I went to TUG and tried to pull up more info. Sounds like it will be great!

There aren't a lot of choices in Waikiki as you know. The Hilton will be the tops when it is completed. None of the others that I'm aware are 5* or Gold Crown. Most are off the beach in older high rise buildings. DVC has chosen to include NO Oahu units at present based on the poor choices but with the Marriott's coming I'm sure that will change.
