Have you ever tracked a package?

I placed an order from Ebay. The seller sent me the FedEx tracking #.

I logged on to the Fed Ex site. The package left IN and then went to OH. From OH, it went to WI. We're in IL (Chicago suburb) so it will be interesting to see if it goes to MN or IA before being delivered. ;)

I track pkgs all the time. I got one right now that was maybe 25 min from me and is now 2+hrs from me. pretty sad isn't it.

If I could get frequent flyer miles for all of the extra miles that my packages have travelled, I'd be able to buy DVC and AP's, because I would never have to buy another plane ticket again!

I track packages all the time! It was really cool when I ordered my macbook and watched it go from China to Anchorage, AK and a few other places before it got here!

Yes, I belong to a book swapping site, and the cost of gas to ship books back & forth is sometimes more than the actual book. :sad2: It's supposed to be about recycling and not wasting, then the resources to ship the book around defeats the purpose.

Probably shipped 2-day. I tracked 2 packages from Reading PA to NYC a few weeks ago, one was 2-day and the other was overnight. The overnight passed the NJ overnight, while the 2-day package went to the midwest somewhere before going to NJ. It all depends on where the trucks and planes are destined.

It has nothing to do with how close your package is to your actual house, and everything to do with how the shipper has organized its distribution. Believe me, if it were cheaper to drive that 25 minutes to your house and deliver your package instead of moving it two hours away, it would be done that way.

You can be sure they have studied exhaustively ways to move their packages that are the most efficient and cheapest. If they are spending extra in gas somewhere it is balanced by a greater savings somewhere else - maybe fuel for another plane, for example.

I think it's an awesome system and I have no complaints! It is fun and quirky to watch, though...

Yea, we once had some computer parts go from New Jersey to North Carolina to Texas BACK to New Jersey and then a handful of other stops until it got to us in Tennessee.

Now I know it depends on where they are heading... but it makes no sense that it flew to Texas only to fly all the way back to New Jersey... where it started from. It also took over twice as long as it was supposed to take, but the company we ordered from took care of that.
