How exchanges work:

You see an exchange that you would like to join.

You send a pm to the original poster who is organizing the exchange, with your info, (name address etc.)

The organizer will pm you a name and address of a fellow DISer to send a parcel to.

You shop for the exchange item and then mail it out to your person.

Then you wait to see where your parcel is from.

It is a lot more fun to get exchange parcels in the mail than bills and you also get to "meet" lots of nice people.

There are different types of exchanges and the rules and details are written on the sign up threads.

You would pm your information-name, address, and what other info. that the exchange organizer requests.

Once the sign up date ends, the exchange organizer will send you a name and address of a person that you will buy and send a gift to. When you send out your package and recieve it, you would let the orgainzer know by posting on the sent/recieved thread that would be posted. When you get your exchange, you will list what you had recieved, so that everyone can share in the joy of finding out what had been exchanged.

If you look through the pages of the community board, you will see many different sign ups and sent/recieved threads, to get an idea of what sort of things have been exchanged. If you ever need help, the exchange organizer would be happy to help you out.

Currently off the top of my head there is the Jam/Jelly Exchange and the Yankee Candle Exchange going on.

I really have a lot of fun with them. I have done the t-shirt, yellow, and blue exchanges and my favorite one was the t-shirt exchange.

I havn't done one for awhile due to us moving, but I look forward to doing some more in the winter when I have more time.

my very very favorite exchanges are any exchange that merriweather gets my name!! She is a wonderful exchanger and has taught me how to be a better exchanger!! I haven't done one in a few months but I just signed up for the YC one and can't wait for the ornament one!!

:( I'm sorry you had a bad expereince. Was it come from far away? Or did the person just not send it?

The person didn't send it until the exchange-mom bugged them. It was an anonymous exchange, so I didn't know who they were.

Well I didnt vote because my option was not listed. I have been in a few exchanges and they can be enjoyable depending on who is running the exchange and if your exchangee keeps up their end of the deal.
One time the person never sent the item--however Im not sure anyone got my name since when I told the exchange organizer she asked for my address--which I gave upon signing up.
Another time I got a really crappy exchange item, very, very cheap with no thought whatsoever put into it.
OTOH I have been in 2 others and got some really great stuff.
So if I were to do anymore it would just depend on who was running it.

I've done a number of them and my daughter really enjoys them....only one that was bad was the candy exchange ...have you ANY idea what it is like having a 4 year old who is expecting a box of candy to come in the mail every day...the organizer of that one was terrible and didn't even respond to PM's or posts about it...BUT...2 wonderful people did send her boxes of candy to make up for it so it worked out fine. My daughter loves getting packages in the mail...I loved the Disney Exchange the best I think because it wasn't the 5.00 max type exchange..I would rather do 10.00 or so max instead of the 5.00 ones!

forgot.. i like to make minestuff that means smoething.. like on the blue one i did a lot of my favorite things.. and on the teddy bear one i sent one of the bigger sized ty bears because i live kinda near where they are suposidly made or whatever.. that secret location thing?

 Raejean.....glad to see you back in them :)

I do the ornament exchange every year. I really enjoy that one. :)

I have also done a Yankee Candle exchange and a kids coloring book exchange.

They all have been fine for me. :)

Yes, have been in quite a few & have enjoyed them::yes::

I haven't done one yet, but will when I find one that seems "up my alley"!! I saw the jams/jellies one, and I *love* homemade jams, but unfortunately, the recipient of my jam would get a store-made jar! LOL! I've never made it in my life... So one of these days, I'll sign up for one...maybe a Disney only one!!

I've participated in a few in the past and enjoyed them. Right now, though, I just don't have the time or extra cash to join any.

I did a couple of YCE's a couple of years ago. They were fun.....:D

I LOVE THE EXCHANGES!!!!!!!!!

I have done several Yankee Candle & Christmas ornament exchanges. Joined the recipe, Disney only, children, local and a few others. I really love doing them. I don't get to do as many any more because my oldest DD(Oddball27) also wants to do them now, and I usually end up having to pay for hers also. I just signed up for the YC exchange and am anxiously awaiting the Christmas ornament exchange. Am I addicted or what?????:wave2:

I have had to wait awhile for two exchanges, and once I saw some of my things regifted(!) but that hasn't stopped me...I wish something would, as I am totally obsessed. I have already bought stuff for the next 4 exchanges, and am awaiting (HOPEFULLY-HINT, HINT!!) the next Disney Exchange eagerly, as it is my favorite. I hope (HINT,HINT) the powers-that-be-of-exchanges (HINT, HINT) will hold another Disney Exchange before Christmas. (HINT, HINT)...Am I being too subtle?

I have done some swaps over on the scrapbook board. Love the goodies! Right now we are working our way through the WDW parks and it's wonderful to get all of these original, fancy elements for my scrapbook pages!

I've done four - 2 Yankee Candle and 2 Ornament. Those are probably the easiest because it's hard to get the wrong thing since they are so defined. I wouldn't do something like the letter exchanges because it might be hard to meet the expectations of your exchangee. I have learned from my experiences that you have to go into the exchanges with the idea that it is better to give than to receive - you will receive something but sometimes it is not what you would have done or sent. Does that make sense? I'm pretty sure in one exchange I did that I received what the person who had my name received from someone else in the same exchange. That can be a little disappointing but I reminded myself that some folks don't have the same amount of free time I have or the same access to stores so I got over it ;) The person I sent to loved what I sent and that is what matters to me in the end.
