The first 2 times we ever went to WDW we stayed off site. The first time we stayed at the 1776 which I don't even think exists anymore and then we stayed at some other place on International Drive. Once we stayed on site, we've never gone back to off site and never will.

We;ve done on and offsite.

Onsite we have done All Star Sports and Wilderness Lodge.

Like robinrs, I have to say staying at Disney limits you to Disney only.

Offsite give you option of Universal, Seaworld, etc.

I have yet to stay onsite at Universal, but I would like to. That FOTL perk seems to be wonderful.

We have stayed onsite all but one time. We have stayed at the All Star Sports and Wilderness Lodge. In just over a week, we'll be staying at Old Key West. We are counting the days!

We never stayed on site until we got a great deal at Dixie Landings in 2000. We stated for 8 nights and ended up buying into DVC because we loved staying on site. We already owned at Vistana so we now use that for trade or divide it by staying there and at BWV or BCV. We fell in love with DVC and added on twice at the BWV and bought at BCV.

After staying onsite - I don't think we could go back and not.

If it was not for DVC, we probably would not stay on site as often. It is expensive. <a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/12/12_1_102.gif' border=0></a> When I read people staying at AKL Concierge...I don't know how they do it unless they are wealthy to start out with!!!!!!!<a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/11/11_2_100.gif' border=0></a>

Our first 9 WDW visits were spent at DXL (POR) Now that DH works for Radisson this will be our 3rd off-site stay. As much as I love staying on property, I just can't justify it with the huge savings we get from Radisson. Last 3 trips have enabled us to add extra days that we otherwise couldn't afford.

I have done both.

I strongly prefer on-site. I'd stay in a closet on-site before staying in a suite off-site.

Now, when we go to Orlando, it's either a WDW vacation, or an "other" (Seaworld, US, etc) vacation.

So far, we've done CR & WL. Our dd is young, so we like to be close to the MK. When she's older, I want to try all the deluxe resorts. I'm looking forward to the YC or BC when she can swim really well (SAB).

I have stayed offsite once about 18 years ago in a crappy little dump motel in Kissimmee.

A year after dh and I married, we stayed at CBR and were introduced to DVC then.

I can't imagine staying offsite unless I wanted to stay in Florida longer than I had points to stay onsite with!

Why on earth would staying in a Disney hotel restrict you to Disney?

We just took a taxi, as we didn't have a car that trip, and went somewhere non Disney, like Seaworld for the day. Staying onsite was NOT at all restricting! :p

This yr we may actually be doing more of SeaWorld and Universal than the 4 Disney parks combined!
The plans currently are 2days Universal, 1 day SeaWorld, and maybe 3days & 1 night (MNNSHP) Disney. If we find we dont want to do a park one day it will be from Disney.
We visited Disney in 01 & 02, SeaWorld in 01. Havent been to Universal since 1996, before they had IOA.

We are staying at VWL cos it is finally our turn to go "home"!

I love staying on-sight...but now the last trip...We ended up staying at RPR, a Universal on-sight. I just love this resort! The driving to Disney is a piece of cake. And I just love to be able to drive around and check out what there is to see around Orlando.

Yes, and no. I prefer on site. I am not a big fan of Universal, but I can get there from WDW just fine, same with Sea World. I have stayed off site 3 times, each time was in conjunction with the Big Red Boat, when they were the Official Cruise Line of Walt Disney World, boy you know that was a long time ago. I like the convenience of onsite for park access, I like the busses, I like being immersed in WDW. If DH was to ever come with me again I would try to stay onsite, although that would not be his first choice.
