Have you ever sponsored a foreign visitor

We had an exchange student from Spain for a summer school program 10 yrs ago.
I didnt know anything about this program. One day I got a frantic call from an old friend who said she ran this program and one of the host families back out while the kids were in route from Spain and begged me to host this teen.
I did it and we loved it. Our student was so much fun to have around. My kids were little but loved learing all about Spain.

When I was in highschool, my mom and dad had an exchange student live with us from Spain. I never had a sister so it was really neatl to have her live with us. We became really close, pretty much best friends. We stayed in touch for a few years after she went home but it's been a long time since I've talked to her.

We took in two high school French guys when I was in high school. I was very into the French class, the club, etc. One of the guys who was staying at a different home, (there were about 15 of them) became a long-time pen pal. He came and visited once when his family was in California on vacation, and when my Dh and I were on our honeymoon in Paris, we had dinner with his family and took him out on the town. Now he's married with at least one child, so we've kind of lost touch. I'd say that it's good if you have a child the same age, so that you can involve the visitor in your activities. assuming this will be a student. It's not great if you never go anywhere or do anything. I think they might expect to be shown around at least somewhat. Good luck with the decision! :sunny: If we're talking about an adult, I don't know anything about sponsoring someone from abroad. :confused3

I participated in a French exchange in high school. I spent a month in Normandy, and the girl I lived with there in turn spent a month with us. It was a wonderful experience. It's now 15 years later and we still keep in touch. She's been back and stayed with us several times since, and I can't wait to use visiting her as an excuse to visit Disneyland Paris! :teeth:
