Have you ever pulled out a drive thru, whats the longest you waited?

I agree with you. And if someone is told to move over to a parking space to wait for their order and they refuse, they just might find an "additive" in their food once they get it. ;) You just don't mess with people who are serving your food. Seriously.

I've had to move up out of the line when waiting for an order occasionally and I have seen other cars behind me leave with their food.

Wow. If you have a large and/or more complicated order than those behind you, and they ask you to move up and you refuse, and the poor guy behind you only ordered something to drink and they could give it to him immediately why shouldn't they serve him first? Makes much more sense to get people out of the way who have ordered less items, or that have a less complicated order than to make them wait simply because you refuse to move when asked to. Wow. Just....wow. Pretty selfish if you ask me (and even if you didn't ask ;)).

Do you feel the same way if YOU are the one with the small order and the person AHEAD of you refuses to move up? You could have your order and be on your merry way if they'd move. But you're okay with the fact that they WON'T move up
?

Exactly! I can't believe how selfish and entitled some people are! It's really just amazing:confused3

The only times I have left the drive-through line was when they took forever to acknowledge my presence and ask for my order. I don't do drive-through food too much anymore, but when my children were small I would have waited forever in the line before getting them out of their car seats and dragging them inside.

The drive through line I don't get is Chick-fil-a. They always have it designed so that the line circles the building and then those who are parked in the parking lot can't get out.

The problems noted in this thread are why my fast food mainly comes from Sonic!

(Well, that, and they have diet cherry limeaide, tater tots, and hot dogs; and they will make you a burger with just mustard.)

I consider myself a relatively patient person, but if I wanted to wait 20 minutes for food, I wouldn't go to a "fast" food joint. That having been said, if I see a drive-thru with more than 5-6 cars in line, I'll usually just go in and nine times out of ten, I'm in my car and on the way home before the last car in line has left.

I agree 100%. If I am paying for FAST food, I expect to get what I pay for. If I go to a restaurant then I wait, but I get waited on. The point of getting fast food is to get your food and go, not wait 20- 45 min. for a meal that isn't worth waiting for!

I have left a drive through, but only if I have to wait a long before placing my order.

I also prefere Sonic where they will walk out orders if the person in front is still waiting, and I almost always try to leave extra room so I can pull out. or I just order at a stall.

Obviously you didn't read the part of my post where I said If I have a large order I'm more than willing to wait.

When you go to a business you are entitled to equal service. I would say that the McDonalds (the only place we have problems) feels pretty entitled to have someone pull up and wait 8 minutes "for fresh fries" that cook in 2 minutes 13 seconds.

Apparently you people have never been to In N Out! 20 minutes IS a short wait! But sooooo worth it!!

I have never left the line after ordering. But i did have a total mommy brain moment once. I got to the window, paid, and drove off. Then realized what I had done and had to do a walk of shame inside to announce myself as the person that just drove away without my food.

THIS!! Apparently, those impatient people have never worked a drive through and had their managers punish them for the drive thru times. I worked at Burger King as a teen and our times had to be under 3 minutes. Now, a chicken sandwich took just over 2 minutes in the fryer so if there weren't any down or if a customer wanted one dropped fresh (happened all the time even if we had just dropped them) that took longer and we asked that picky person to pull forward to spare our times.

If you are that picky, go inside! Front counter times are only expected to be 5 minutes or less and managers are much more lenient! I'm a picky person. I don't like onions on my sandwiches or lettuce in most cases. I hate mustard. I prefer onion rings to fries. So I go inside to order. Also, if you have a large order ( I frequently do with a family of six) go inside! It takes a shade more time to park and waddle your butt inside to get your Whopper or Big Mac.

Cut those poor drive thru people some slack. They are just trying to do their lousy paying job!

Just curious - what is your proper definition of "large order." How much am I allowed to order before I have to "waddle my butt" inside?

I have not seen any signs on the drive through that it is an "express lane" and limited to x amount of orders per car.

So, I ask again, according to you, what is the max non-waddle orders I can place when using the drive through?

Oh, and we most always pull ahead if asked. And I have never left a drive through after I ordered.

I dont' bother with drive thrus. It's been shown through multiple trials that it saves no time over parking and going in.

I think it depends on each drive thru individually.

I've been in some that were dreadfully long waits. Others, I can get through the drive thru much faster.

In my area, I have a general idea of which ones are slow and which ones are fast.

Our In and Out's are pretty amazing, there is always a line, but they have 2 folks out with those handheld devices taking orders when it gets busy. I don't think I've very waited more than 10 minutes. There burgers are fine, but not worth a 20 minute wait.

Thanks for making my day.

Several of our drive thrus around here are like "antique car" tracks. You have a curb on both sides and you can't get out once you're in line. I hate it. Now that I have a small child, I find I use drive thrus much more often than before, because it's tough unbuckling a wiggly toddler from her carseat, going inside and placing an order while trying to wrangle said wiggly toddler, and then carry food back to the car while making sure the wiggly toddler doesn't escape. Drive thru is much easier. It's not often any faster, here, but it's easier than the alternative when I'm by myself with the munchkin!
