Have you ever had your WDW room Downgraded?

We always book pool view at POR. Its easier to stumble back to the room that way after a dip and drink. I wouldn't be heart broken if I got another category as long as I didn't have to look at a parking lot.

That is exactly why I was so very disappointed at our downgrade at CSR. I could have dealt with loosing the building for BC but I didn't care one bit for the view we got stuck with. View matters quite a lot to me. To go from BC King to Standard King was quite a drop off.

Yes I have. I booked and paid for a preffered room and was downgraded to a standard. I wasn't happy about it. They said they had no ability to move me and gave me a discount on the room. I was there for 2 weeks and booked preffered for a reason...to be close to amenities, so it wasn't great....

The second time I was downgraded at the Music it was just me and my 70+ year old dad. So I was a bit, peeved, to be downgraded. And to add insult to injury it was the December where it was soo cold. The Music lost me as a customer after that.

Yes, the values lost me also....for many reasons, including the downgrade

Ugh, I wish I never read this thread! We booked CR TPV for October. It would ruin my trip to not get it!

I'd expect a refund and some additional compensation for them not having my room available. Such as a big upgrade the next day when moved, a credit to use towards dining and something sent to the room like flowers,a bottle of wine or a nice plate of chocolate covered strawberries with a note of apology from th hotel manager.

A refund, yes. If you're expecting anything else you'll most likely be very disappointed.

I doubt it. I'd make sure to receive compensation. I'd escalate as necessary. It's not acceptable.

I don't.

I wasted 3.5 hours arguing, escalating, basically blowing a gasket (embarrassing my whole family) with zip in return. The only thing I received was a print out of the Terms of Service we all agree to when we book which states the only thing your reservation guarantees is a room on WDW property.

curious, do you have where in the reservation it shows this? I read through the T&C on my current room only reservation and I don't see where it says I may not get the room type I reserved. But I could be overlooking it. The biggest section is the ME section

We were downgraded once, at CR from a theme park view room to Bay lake. I wouldn't have been bothered about a view normally but we'd moved to the contemporary for 3 nights specifically for that view and to watch wishes from the room. And it was the end of September so,not a peak holiday that I may have anticipated availability issues.

Initially we were told we'd be refunded the difference without even an apology, but when I made it clear I was very unhappy with this, the manager came out they offered us access to the club lounge for the 3 nights, so we could watch wishes from the lounge. That was a very nice perk but it didn't really make up for not getting what we'd booked and been looking forward too.
Wow. I'm sorry that happened!! Yep, the whole reason for the view is so we can watch wishes in our pjs after ordering room service. It's not a consolation, but at least they did give the club access. I wonder if they would let you switch resorts if requested.

Sorry you didn't have better luck.

I didn't have any luck escalating at the time either. After much back and forth and the manager coming out to talk to me I was pretty much told take it or leave it.

I think why it is such a problem at the Music is because they used a lot of the preferred rooms to make the family suites. They simply have fewer to give out.

that is just so lousy. I understand what the TOS says but it is absolutely within their power to make it right even if that does not mean providing you with the exact room you paid for. Downgrading rooms should be rare but if it does need to happen they should make a reasonable effort to make the guest happy.

I don't know where it is now. This happened to us pre My Disney Experience. It used to be in the Terms and Conditions you had to agree to right before putting your deposit $$ down. And it used to also be in the confirmation email, but haven't seen it since the switch to MDE.

This is the language from my T&C in my reservation:

Room Snip.JPG

I believe the line that says "We reserve the right to cancel or modify a room reservation (even if that reservation has been confirmed) if the room reservations includes or resulted from a mistake or error of any kind," gives them the right to downgrade you if they mistakenly oversold a room category. The phrase "not limited to" gives them pretty much any type of mistake, not just in the rate.

Disney is in the business of making money. Frequent downgrades to reservations would be very bad for their bottom line. Be aware that it can happen, but you are far more likely to get the exact type of room you reserved.

Interesting. I would say that covers them. However, that sentence does not appear on my T&C that I have for my stay in 2 weeks.
wonder, if yours from a package or room only?

we got downgraded two times at values...Pop and Movies. Both times we booked preferred and both times got put wayyy back of the resort. We had to fight for the price difference. Kinda annoyed us at the time as I have MS and some days its hard to walk, telling them this made no difference whatsoever. Like Dansdad I blew a gasket too and it got me no where....as long as they refund me the price difference Im cool.... ( but it still makes me feel better to give a small rant at the front desl lol)

I got a room "Upgrade", but it was a downgrade really for Mom and I at POP back in 2012. We wanted a Standard two queens room (made requests about) and got a Pool View King. It was High Summer (Week after July 4th) and they couldn't change us because of my displeasure. It's why I so want two beds this time and am even using Touring Plans room request service to try and get it.

My husband and I have been downgraded twice. The first experience was at Coronado just after they started with room types being bookable categories as opposed to requests (ex. king bed, water view, standard, etc.). We booked a king bed under a passholder discount. Went to check in, got our room number, and headed off to find our room. I never even thought to ask if we were given the room we booked (lesson learned). We were walking to our room from the parking lot and I was so excited because it looked like we were going to get a king bed with a water view room! We were very excited about the location, opened the door, walked in, and.........um.........why are there 2 beds? So I called the front desk (I know...I know...not the front desk...I wasn't on the DIS yet because I lived in Winter Park and could go to Disney whenever I wanted for my fix) and explained that we had booked a king bed but that is not what we were given. The CM said ohhh yes I see that...well we are all out of King beds...actually the entire resort is sold out this weekend...but you were given a wonderful waterview upgrade. It was the comment about the waterview upgrade that bothered me. When I booked all of the options were available so I chose to spend the extra money on a king bed. If a king room wasn't an option and water and standard were, I would have booked the standard room. I wouldn't have booked a water view room. King bed and waterview were the same price so what she was calling an upgrade was a lateral move...one that I wouldn't have paid for. I asked why I wasn't told at check in that I wasn't given the room I booked? She apologized and kept harping on the upgrade to a waterview room. I explained that I wouldn't have booked a waterview room and that it wasn't an upgrade, it was the same price. I said I was willing to move to a standard room and she said there weren't any available. In the end she had us stay in the room and had the rate changed to the standard rate. I was very happy with that result but annoyed we spent well over an hour on the phone trying to get it resolved. It left a bad taste about Coronado Springs that I wish I didn't feel. Not fun starting off a vacation that way.

The other downgrade was our next vacation a few months later at POR. Again, we booked a king bed for the trip hoping for better luck this time! After the last experience I knew not to leave the front desk without double checking that our room was a king. The CM said to give him a second. He went into the back room and came out a few minutes later. Meanwhile my husband and I were like, 'haha we're totally not getting a king bed!' He came back out and said, 'I am sorry we are sold out of king beds but we have credited the difference in price and you will be charged the nightly rate for a standard room.' We were totally okay with that. He apologized, they made the price right, and for us all was okay. The only reason this experience was better was because it was resolved before we left the front desk. If I hadn't asked before leaving the front desk it would have been the same situation as Coronado, and I would have been annoyed. So the lesson I learned from these two experiences was to never leave the front desk without knowing that I got the room I booked!
