Have You Ever Had Tide Detergent Ruin Your Clothing?

Let me preface this by saying that I rarely use bleach when I wash clothes. Maybe 3 times a year, I will feel the need to use bleach. So, I know there was no bleach residue in my washer.

Recently I switched from regular Tide detergent to Tide "Free". My son has eczema, I have sensitive skin, I figured it couldn't hurt.

Yesterday, I did a small load of delicate clothing. It was an orange sundress my DD just got from H&M (never been washed yet) and a polo shirt that was a violet color. I started filling the washer up with cold water and threw in a half-lid of Tide Free.

When I pulled the clothes out to hand them up to dry, the dress had what looks EXACTLY like a big splatter of a bleach stain on one area. The polo shirt was fine.

At that point, I figured that maybe there was some imperfection in teh H&M dress and that it "bled out" weird.

This morning, I do another small load of delicates. A khaki skirt of mine and an American Eagle tank top that is my DDs. Same process of loading up the washer. When I finished and pulled the clothes out, the A&E tank top has these same sort of bleach stains across one of the straps (which are an olive green). This thing has been washed several times.

So now, I've somehow ruined two of my DD's favorite clothing items. Now I know that I am probably NOT supposed to throw the laundry detergent on top of the clothes. I know that I should fill the tub, add the detergent, and then the clothes but I NEVER do this and it has never been a problem. But with this new Tide Free it *is* a definite problem. I'm just shocked. I somehow thought this might be a more gentle detergent but I think it's worse.

I have sensitive skin and have used Tide Free for years. I have never had a problem!

Well, I'm just flumoxxed. I just started using this stuff about a week ago and I have two items ruined.

I put the detergent in the water first, and let it fill some before adding clothes. I have seen clothes get a faded spot from any detergent (non-bleach) being placed directly on them.

Call the 1-800 number on the bottle and see what Tide says and if there is anything that they will do for you.

This may not be the case with your problem but I thought my detergent was bleaching out spots on my daughters' clothing. Nothing major but everyone once in a while something was coming out of the wash looking like it had been spotted with bleach. It turns out that their doctor had put them on a new acne medication and this was getting on some of their clothes. I washed one of my jackets with some of thier clothing and it even came our with spots. Just a thought.

Definitely had this happen with Tide with bleach but never Tide Free. Looks like you'll be waiting longer to add the detergent and then the clothes from now on. ;)

I also got bleach-like spots on a shirt when using Tide but I'm not sure what cause it. I never use bleach :confused3. It was also orange and from H&M :scratchin

I know that DH's shirt got a bleach-like splatter from using the tide stain stick.

I use Tide coldwater and the same thing has happened. I do think it's my face cream that caused it, because I do DH's laundry seperately and it hasn't happened to his. It's weird though that the discoloring only happens after I wash something.

This happened to me too but I use Cheer with Colorguard (go figure!) I had the biggest problem with blue items getting pink splotches on them. I ruined some of my favorite shirts.... only shirts, not pants. Odd eh?

Well, she doesn't use any acne medication or any products that would cause such a thing. I am starting to wonder though if there was something in her room that might have caused this while the clothes were in the hamper.

We go through at least 12 outfits a day that need washing, plus sheets and towels, etc.

I use Tide Free on all this stuff - I've used it since it came out - and have NEVER had any problem.

I'm not saying it isn't causing you problems, but it doesn't always happen.

Don't be it's happened to me with Tide HE (I have a front load so I don't even put the detergent in with the clothes.) Two shirts I purchased for myself have what appear to be bleach stains on them, no clue how it happened except it was in the wash.

I stopped using Tide HE because the clothes were fading. I've had no problems with Cheer.

I just performed a little test because as I went back in to look at my khaki skirt, I noticed that it, too, had splatter marks all over it. Although they were not white, they were a lighter tan. So my khaki skirt is ruined.

Anyway, I threw the H&M dress back in the washer and recreated by steps by throwing the detergent on top of the dress. No splatter marks.

My guess is that when my pile of fine washables was laying on the laundry room floor *somebody* splashed something on them.

 I've used Cheer with Colorguard for years. It is the ONLY detergent I will use. Every time I try something else, my clothes fade immediately in that wash.

I did have one Victoria Secret T-shirt I've had for years fade when it accidently got put in the dryer. I hang them to dry so they don't shrink. Another T that was exactly like it, in the same load, but did get hung up, didn't fade. I didn't know the dryer could fade clothing. A pair of panties that was the same color was in the dryer and didn't fade, so I know it wasn't because something with bleach got into the dryer.

:laundy: This is all so strange to me. :sad2:

I have had funky fade spots on my shirts before. I thought it was my detergent as well.

I'm not sure who pointed it out to me, but someone suggested that it was actually the fabric softener (liquid) that we used that was causing the stains/fades.

Turns out they were right. After using only the sheets for two or three years now, I have never had that problem since. It was very irratic too when it happened, so I had no idea what caused it at first since we have the areas to pour all the detergents and the like in.

So if you use fabric softener, it could be that. Apparently build up in washers cause that to happen and very irradically as well. I lost many shirts to that stuff (it was Downy too, so not cheapy stuff either) :(

I have used Tide Free for years without this happening. When I had a top loader, I made sure it was full of water first. Now that I have a front loader, it doesn't go in with the clothes anymore. (Have never used HE - just use less of the Tide Free).

I have sensitivites to fragrances and have used Tide Free for years.
I also always fill the tub with clothes first, then start the washer and then add the Tide.

I've never had any problems. :confused3
I've also used every temp of water available and never had problems.
