Let me preface this by saying that I rarely use bleach when I wash clothes. Maybe 3 times a year, I will feel the need to use bleach. So, I know there was no bleach residue in my washer.
Recently I switched from regular Tide detergent to Tide "Free". My son has eczema, I have sensitive skin, I figured it couldn't hurt.
Yesterday, I did a small load of delicate clothing. It was an orange sundress my DD just got from H&M (never been washed yet) and a polo shirt that was a violet color. I started filling the washer up with cold water and threw in a half-lid of Tide Free.
When I pulled the clothes out to hand them up to dry, the dress had what looks EXACTLY like a big splatter of a bleach stain on one area. The polo shirt was fine.
At that point, I figured that maybe there was some imperfection in teh H&M dress and that it "bled out" weird.
This morning, I do another small load of delicates. A khaki skirt of mine and an American Eagle tank top that is my DDs. Same process of loading up the washer. When I finished and pulled the clothes out, the A&E tank top has these same sort of bleach stains across one of the straps (which are an olive green). This thing has been washed several times.
So now, I've somehow ruined two of my DD's favorite clothing items. Now I know that I am probably NOT supposed to throw the laundry detergent on top of the clothes. I know that I should fill the tub, add the detergent, and then the clothes but I NEVER do this and it has never been a problem. But with this new Tide Free it *is* a definite problem. I'm just shocked. I somehow thought this might be a more gentle detergent but I think it's worse.
