A place near us is now making and selling mead. I have never had it.

Ugh, yes. We got a bottle of it for our wedding (Irish tradition?).
It's supposed to be the "nectar of fertility" so we were too superstitious anywhere close to our wedding to try it. :rotfl:
When we did try it, a year later,

While on vacation in Ireland, I drank it. It is good, in a sweet sort of way. Definitely worth a try.

MIL went to Ireland and Scotland and bought a ton of small bottles a souvenirs "for all us kids." But she kept swilling them all. :lmao: I don't think any of us every got our lips on one. :rotfl: I've tasted it and it's very sweet.....Since MIL was a sweet junkie, it makes sense that she hoarded all the mead she bought "for us" and drank it herself.

I like it. My husband made some and it turned out great. Took two years to brew, but totally worth it!

I love it! If you enjoy sweet wines, you'll like mead. :thumbsup2

I was ok super chilled. Even a little warm I thought it was gross. I would not order or buy it myself, but it was served to me.

I have never had it and it doesn't sound good to me since I don't like honey. Maybe I'd like pyment or morat or one of the others with fruit added.

I like it!:)

then again, I prefer sweet wines.

used to get it at the Renaissance Fest and a local winery. It is best very chilled, as others have mentioned. I only like the plain, don't care for any of the spiced.

As a homebrewer, Mead is one of the best things to make yourself. There are so many different recipes out there to make it to your liking as well.

As someone else pointed out, it's best when left to ferment and age for awhile, 1-2 years. When I brew a batch I just set it aside and forget about it until it clears up and is ready.

It is very sweet, but if you've got a nice chalice or goblet to put it in, you'll be drinking like a warrior!

I like it:goodvibes
add a shot to a beer...now that is tasty

LOVE Mead. One of my favorite things during the F&W festivle and Raglan Road has a pretty mean mead too. Yummy.

Mead! Honey wine. Yummmmmy. I had some in Ireland at Bunratty Castle. (It was called Bunratty Meade.) I'm not a big alcohol drinker, but I LOVED Mead.

Yes, when we studied Beowulf someone made it and brought it to class- great stuff!

Yes, at our local renaissance festival. It's basically beer made from honey instead of wheat, I think. If you like the ice wine that they have at Le Cellier, you will like it. It's very sweet.

Yummy, but only if you like sweet wine! As a PP did, I first had mead at Bunratty Castle in Ireland. If I remember correctly, mead is where the word 'honeymoon' comes from...the couple would be given enough mead to last a month, or a cycle of the moon.

I used to make it, along with other wines. I made mine rather dry, as did my friends who did home brewing. I don't much care for the store bought mead, it's way too sweet for me.

and hated it! But DH and I are not into sweet drinks. If all they made was mead and Budweiser I'd quit drinking.
