Have you ever had anything stolen at Disney World?

We stayed at CSR this past November and came home and had messages on the answering machine about charges to my husband's AMEX in Las Vegas.
Don't know who got a hold of his number as the card was still in his wallet. Don't know if if was someone from Disney or someone else. All of the $1400 charges were removed and husband got a new card in about a week. it was weird for them to leave messages on the home phone and not call his cell phone.
Needless to say, make sure they have a cell phone number as the primary phone.

No, and we never lock anything up in the room and we have always left lots of things, even a camera bag with spare lenses, in the stroller. We bring lots of electronics with us too, couple lap tops, iPads, etc.
This last trip in Aug, DH left his phone laying on the ground near the FP kiosks in Frontier Land. It was turned in to a CM, who answered it when I called and directed us to him. We are still working under the wonderful Disney bubble

Nope, nothing ever stolen. Even when we were tent camping at FW and had no safe or even a door to lock! :rotfl:

I would never feel the need to take a lap top to WDW but I was careful to lock up my Kindle in the safe at DL last year.

And next visit to DL or WDW I will be sure to take a wallet which doesn't allow my cards to be scanned without my knowledge... (RFID protection)

Nope. In fact I had someone turn in my $600.00 Canon Camera to lost and found.

The thing to remember if something is stolen is to call the police first, and then notify Disney. Disney won't reimburse you, but at least they have a chance to address the problem, and maybe fire a not so honest employee if need be.

Nope and I don't always lock things up in the safe. Often, I want electronics to charge while I am away. I Left my iPad charging every day in our room at the GF with no issues and have done the same at Grand Californian at DLR.

The hotel manager offered to have a statement taken, but we had already clarified things with our CC company. I wrote an email to Disney when we got back. We had a black cloud during our visit... My daughter also got the stomach bug while there. During one night of constant throwing up- I had to call multiple times on more than one occasion for towels and sheets, and our toilet broke not once, but twice and overflowed in the middle of the night. They refunded us a night's stay and gave us three 1 day hoppers for our next visit. I was pleasantly surprised because I wasn't looking for anything- I honestly didn't think they'd offer. My email though was friendly and I mentioned the great CMs we encountered. I still hate the idea that someone was in our room and stole our info.

This ^^

I don't know much about electronics, but I do know that scam artists can easily get your credit card info without ever touching your cards. If you have a problem, it might be someone at WDW who handled your card or got your numbers off of it. OR it might be someone at the airport who has a scanner. The scanner only has to be near your wallet or purse and all info can be transferred. You can buy inexpensive protection sleeves to keep your credit cards in. I always use one.

the credit card stories have an explanation and disney is aware of it but can do very little about it

often it is not cast members who steel the information and drain accounts but rather other guests

last time I was in magic kingdom we saw a man with what looked like a camera phone but was not when you looked closely as we did because he appeared to be taking pictures of random people

after we saw him take pictures of people he did not know for 15 minutes he walked over to a backpack by a family and pulled out a box and attached this box to the "phone" device and proceeded to do this repeatedly, especially near food counters

my best guest is he's there everyday and uses these images to zoom in and steel many credit card numbers and security codes off of the cards he gets glimpses of with an enhanced camera type device

we informed a cast member and they went and got management to watch him and the. they called security but hey also mentioned to us that this was not the first time in this area such things had been reported and hey we're aware of the scenario but until they had proof they could not take action legally on the individual who claimed he did not speak English then would go talk to his friends in perfect English

if your in the area of outdoor places where this could occur try to cover you credit card and not wave it around especially when using the touch machines at counter service locations, many people reveal there entire card by holding only the edges of their cards while using the touch pads used a majority of the time for magic bands

We have never had anything stolen that is physical so we would be able to track who did it (i.e. watches or laptops left out etc.) but in the last year DBF and I have both had our credit cards skimmed at least 5 times at Disney World. Mine was twice during a runDisney expo and the rest we imagine were at the parks. Both times it was for credit cards we never actually used that trip but had on us in the parks.

We figure it must be people using skimmers and not just cameras. I'll never forget when an NYPD officer told me to get a medal case for my credit cards because these crooks will walk the streets of NYC with the device turned on then sell the numbers on the black market. I bet Disney is a hot bed for illegal activities that are just the same because the skimmers are so small now these crooks don't even look suspicious.

definitely agree with this it must happen all the time especially during peak times of tourism

We go at the busiest time of the year and we have never been skimmed. I guess we must be lucky! **knock wood**

There is no way for a thief to "scan" your credit card that is in your wallet *unless* it has an RFID chip. Standard, vanilla, US credit cards can't be read unless they are swiped.

Our that have been skimmed with no swipe had the tap to pay function. DBF believes Apple pay may not be as secure as they said it is because he literally got a brand new card and all he had done with it was load it onto his iPhone 6. With in two hours 1000 was spent on his card, Could be coincidence could be the apple pay we will never know. interestingly about the busy season besides race weekends we typically travel in the off season. I mean it is possible they are being skimmed here in NYC during use and being used by someone in Orlando but 4 of the 5 times the fraudulent charges were made in or shipped to Orlando.

My son left 20.00 on the table in our room - he was going to grab it and forgot.

When we went back to the room 4 hours later housekeeping had been in and the 20.00 was gone. Coincidence? I think not.....

My husband keeps leaving his laptop out at every hotel we stay at. I keep telling him to put it away. So far he's been lucky and hasn't had it stolen but I really wish he'd just put it away to be safe.

Based on the housekeeping tipping threads here (where everyone seems to want to top the previous poster), not strange at all that it would be missing..

So he's been skimmed not only at Disney but with Apple Pay? Talk about bad luck. I've had credit/debit cards for 30+ years and have had 2, total 2, instances of fraudulent purchases. Wonder why some have them more often than others? And it's not from rarely using them. I use my debit for everything, every day. I carry $0 in cash and will charge even $2 purchases if needed.

Those of you who say you will take a NON RFID reading wallet to Disney next time why only to Disney? Can't those who read things read them elsewhere?

Unless your credit card has a RFID chip, then it's not necessary. Most US credit cards are not RFID equipped.

You will never be able to determine where or how the thieves got your credit card number. They could have even gotten it from the bank or card provider. Or from breaking into a database.

...another reason I kind of like being DVC. nobody in my room! On trash day we put stuff away. But knock on wood we've never had things stolen elsewhere in the world.
Bingo! Nobody comes into our room when we stay. Never had anything taken and we leave everything out... also leave the tv on all of the time...then they never know when you are "home"...

Never had anything missing from any hotel, even internationally. We have left my macbook, ipad, DH iphone, expensive jewelry, expensive designer purses($800+). This trip to WDW our safe was not working I left my full wallet there sitting in the open safe, with all my credit cards, IDs, etc and nothing was charge or missing. The only thing that we are usually really careful with is cash. On our trip to Panama last January we made sure we put the cash and passports in the safe, but other than that nope. Never ever had an issue.

Our cards number had been stolen before, but it has never tied in to our trips.

Actually, the credit cards my spouse and I had replaced this year all had RFID chips in them. Would not be surprised if my Disney one is that way next time it is replaced...looks like the US is moving to the RFID credit cards...
