My Granny is a Grammy Award winning Gospel singer, so I have spent time with countless celebs. My most notable encounter happened when I spent the summer with her on the set of the movie "Leap of Faith".
My Granny was cast as one of the singers in the movie and I was out of school for the summer so I tagged along. The movie starred Steve Martin, Debra Winger, Lolita Davidovich, Meatloaf, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Liam Neeson and Luke Haas. It was super exciting for me as I have been a huge Steve Martin fan since I was a small child.
Steve was extremely nice and invited me to eat lunch with him a few times. Lolita Davidovich was awesome, she really liked my Granny so she spent a lot of time in our trailer, Phllip Seymour Hoffman was ok, but really quiet, I played cards with him. Liam Neeson was gorgeous and sooo tall he was pretty quiet too. We had a few conversations, he was very interested in talking about my education and college plans. I was a little bit nervous to meet Meatloaf, but he turned out to be the nicest one of them all and so normal.
The highlight of the summer was when my Granny sang "Blessed Assurance" while shooting a scene and Steve was moved to tears. They had to take a break because everyone on set was bawling. The next day Steve sent her a huge bouquet of flowers with a card that said "You are truly the greatest Gospel singer alive". She still has that card.
what a great heritage.......and I love that Hymn , along with any other Fanny Crosby.
