We are Canadian but flying out of a US city for the first time and we have just heard of airtran and its cheep seats. Is it a good air line and what about the 24hr check in? How do I do it when I don't have access to a computer in WDW? Help? My main concern is it a good service and seating with my family of 5.

Air Tran is fine... and they have a great policy on purchasing business class if it is not sold out!!

I've flown air tran many times.... My husband is an air traffic controller and the entire facility had to go for training to another state. They booked them all on Air Tran.

If you are staying on Disney property I belive they have recently listed AirTran as one of the airlines you can check in, etc.

If you are not staying on Disney property go to their conceirge or you can do it the old fashion way.... at the airport :)

I've flown them a few times, never had any problems. Crew was friendly, flights ontime (we did have a weather delay once, but so were all the other airlines). Overall a pleasant experience.

We flew Air tran out of Detroit last Sept. We are also Canadian. Even though Airtran was not a participating airline with baggage checking, we went to front desk and the lady checked us in 24 hrs in advance. She just made sure that an adult sat with children. THere are 5 of us too. I sat with our older 2 DC and DH sat across the aisle with our infant. It worked out fine, but like a pp said Airtran might be a participating airline for checking you bags at you resort now. For inflight and what not, airtran was good, we would definaltey use them again! :thumbsup2

We too are flying from Detroit to Orlando. So when you flew you and your party were only separated by the aisle? And the front desk at your hotel made these arrangements for you for your return trip 24hrs in advance is that right? If so how long did it take and what paperwork do I have to show them? In addition did you have passports to travel and if so did it make much of a difference? I have heard conflicting replies.

Thanks for your reply

Just saw that AirTran had low prices from Pittsburgh, PA to Orlando. Any other opinions- good, bad, ugly?

For our return trip, I just went to the front desk at our resort and asked the cast member if she could check us in for our flight the following day. This was probably about 18hrs before our flight. I think I just took our confirmation sheet with flight #, time, date and actual confirmation # on it for the cast member. That way she could just log on as me to do it for me. I think that it is important to just explain to the cast member that you need your family seated together. And to get them to check you in pretty close to the 24hr mark. I know that when I checked us in from home, there was plenty of seats open when I went on. And yes my husband was just across the aisle from us. I think that the cast member took about 15- 20 minutes to do it. We do not have passports for any of us. Just birth cert. and our licenses for us adults. We only plan on getting passports when they are required for land crossings next year for DH and I. I hope this helps! :thumbsup2

I just read of Midwests site that Airtran is trying to take over. We booked our frequent flyer ticket to WDW for next Jan. already,(hard to get seat on the small planes we connect with). Will they honor our tickets from Midwest and what happens if they don't have the small planes into the large airport (Midwest Express). Will we lose our money or what?
Also, do these takeover attempts usually go through and how long do they take? The oldest reference on the Midwest site is Jan. 07. Thankspopcorn::
