Have you ever duct taped your feet?

My daughter duct tapes her feet when she plays ice hockey. Just wraps it around the areas that are prone to blisters. It really works!!!!!!! Then she just takes it off after skating. No need to leave it on any longer than the time you are walking around the park.

OK...so now I'm curious...
Why is everyone getting so many blisters???

Are you not wearing good, broken-in shoes to WDW? This is not the time to wear new shoes.
Are you used to walking around a lot? If not, why not "train" for the trip by getting used to walking/being on your feet/walking in the neighborhood or on a treadmill?

Sure, a WDW trip is a big undertaking...and blisters will happen under even the best of circumstances, but there are plenty of things you can do without bringing an entire medicine chest with you to prevent/reduce blistering.

Here are my foot tips....:wave2:

I have trouble with my toes...specifically, my fourth toes, which get squished under my third toes and get blisters on the bottoms. Weird, I know. :o  Anyway, I read a tip somewhere that said to use corn pads with band-aids or moleskin to help prevent and treat blisters. I have used them my last two trips and had absolutely no problems. ::yes::

Another fantastic tip I read was, if you do get a blister, apply a corn pad so the blister is in the middle. Then, fill with Neosporin or the like and cover with a band-aid or moleskin. This provides extra protection and comfort, so the blister can heal.

Also, I found some really great socks before my last trip, with extra padding at the ball of the foot and the heel AND with arch support. These are by far the best, most comfortable socks I've ever worn. My feet never got tired from walking, and I was with a 6 yo and 2 yo! :earseek: :teeth: I got them at Target (can't remember the brand)...they are also made with a special fiber to help keep your feet dry.

I was perusing through an Avon catalog and they have a cream out now called Foot Works Friction Control Anti-Blister Balm.

Has anyone tried this?

Pooh Bear is right. The socks from Target have Cool Max which is a type of material that keeps the feet dry. They also have great support for your arches etc. They are not the cheapest socks but well worth it. For the first time we did not get blisters this past Jan. (it's hard to train and walk when there is snow and ice outside!) We swear by them. In fact I put them away and we won't use them again until our next trip, just in case we can't find them.

Not to mention we also wear comfy sneakers tied fairly tightly, so they don't slide around to much. I tend to have them loose day to day because I am not a shoe untier. Slip on and off, that's my motto.

Mole skin didn't work, spray deoderant was a disaster! We swear by these socks.

I've enjoyed reding these posts and I think i'll use some of these suggestions. I have sweaty feet and my husband is the one who gets blisters. last visit he wore new sandels big mistake , he ended up buying an expensive pair of Mickey socks in the park.

Wow, some of these replies really had me laughing!!!

Im gonna take the whole lot!

I had moleskin last time, but I get blisters right where my sneaker ends, my feet swelled up last time and the moleskin was A. Hard to cut using DH's worn out swiss army keychain knife and then the moleskin would inevitably slide off.

Heres what Im gonna take
duct tape (dont knock it til you try I say) ;)
spray on deoderant (ditto from above)
3 pairs of sneakers (just cant decide and its good to have a backup if a pair gets really wet (from sweat, or Kali RR):smooth:
moleskin
babypowder

My feet were what made my trip miserable last time (DH made me stand in a tub of ice and icewater at night to get swelling and soreness down)
I had some blisters, on backs of lower ankle. But nothing I had to drain.

Whew! I can tell I will have to tip well for the porter carrying my bag!!!!:wave2:

I really have nothing to add, but I wanted to say hello neighbor to you Eyore4Ever....brookfield here too.....
Im going to have to start wearing lime green ribbons around town! LOL
:hyper:

I have never duct taped my feet, but back in high school when playing basketball and volleyball, I wore a pair of knee-high nylons under my sweat socks. I never blistered again. I also did this during a charity walk in college. Now you can buy ankle nylons to wear under short socks. The idea is your feet slip between the nylon and sock and not in the shoe so there is no friction, therefore no blister.

It seems that a good while ago there was a debate about whether or not to wear deodorant on your feet. Someone said that if your feet don't sweat then they will swell. Maybe swollen feet are better than blisters. Someone needs to do a test & put deodorant on one foot & not the other & report the results.

My blisters always show up at the top of my sneakers where they rub on the top of my ankle. The main problem is that my work shoes (heels) don't go up as high as my sneakers and they rub on soft skin. In the past, I've put two bandaids on to protect the area and with two, they don't seem to fold or move. Any other suggestions?

Deodorant will not keep your feet from sweating, but Anti-Perspirant will... Of course, the deodorant will keep your feet from getting stinky, which we all appreciate! :sunny:

My foot prep techniques:

I have sweaty feet issues and I always use baby powder in my socks. It has to be baby powder. Not corn starch or something else. Baby powder is much softer. Also, be sure to not use too much that it gets cakey in your socks. Just enough to provide a nice soft coating on your skin. I carry a travel size baby powder with me to re-powder once during the day. What I might do is take one of my wet wipes to wipe down my feet before re-applying the powder. If you're interested, I put my sock over the opening of the powder container (basically put the container in the sock) so the opening is hear the toes and give a little squeeze to put some powder right in the toe area of the sock. As I'm removing the powder container, I make a stop at the heel for a little squeeze too. Put the sock on, squish your toes around to distribute the powder and the feet feel good!

If a blister does occur, I highly recommend the band-aid advanced healing bandages/blister pads with the compeed technology (see http://www.bandaid.com/advanced_healing_prod.shtml for what I'm talking about). It is the same as the blister block product (http://www.bandaid.com/footcare.shtml) but you get more for your money and in more varied sizes. You put these on the blistered area and LEAVE them on. It creates an environment for better healing of the blister.

Hope this helps someone....

I have a sweatshirt that says, "When the going gets tough, the tough use DUCT TAPE"...

I swear I do. (gift)

ok, I'm going to try to describe this the best I can.... I always have the same problem- my 4th toe and pinky toe always seem to develop weird blisters that seem to actually crease my toes on the bottom (imagine just pinching your toe between 2 fingers).

Anyone else have this problem?

If so I'd greatly appreciate any suggestions on how to prevent this. Think the duct tape would work here?

Yes, I have the SAME problem, on my left foot ONLY! On the bottom of my 3rd toe from the pinky toe, I develop a Callus, that if I do NOT take care of 3 weeks before I go to WDW, I am in great PAIN! I also have a callus on the side of my big toe on the right foot. So, as you see, I have ALL kinds of problems, and yes I wear broken in shoes, but, still have pain after the second day at Disney! I usually put powder in my socks, and this cuts down on the problems, however I also now use a HEEL BALM to put on these areas, and it works!::yes::

I have never had blister problems in my life but on our last trip to Disney I discovered the discomfort of blisters!

We had a solid day of rain and my feet were wet for at least 16 hours! We went back to the resort and took off our wet shoes and socks and just stared at the white wrinkled mass formerly known as our feet! We dried them off well and even used blow dryers ot get our shoes very dry for the next day!

Then next morning we got rain again. Just enough to get our feet and socks wet. By noon the rain was over but we continued through the whole day without changing our shoes and socks. Huge mistake!

By that night we had blisters all over our toes and heels!

SO next time.....I am using duct tape! I refuse to feel that pain again! ::yes::

I have a question about the duct tape---how do you get it off? Do you just pull it off and isn't that bad for your skin?
